I would like to be able to activate the quick search with the possibility to search in the given variables but on all file versions. This search will necessarily take longer because it will scrutinize versions of each file but it seems necessary to me.
Indeed, I have files in two states: study and validated. the methods only see the validated, the BE the studies and the validated.
My problem is the following when the design office modifies a validated part, it goes back to the study, from that moment on, when the methods do a quick search on this part it no longer appears in the results because they are not allowed to see the latest version of the file and the quick search results are only done on the latest version.
It seems that the option exists but it is grayed out... See screenshot.
Do you know how to activate it? or do I absolutely have to do a specific search from the full search for example or the option is not grayed out
We are on PDM 2020 SP04 The admin has the right to do a quick search on all versions of fileir (choice not greyed out) For other users/groups it remains grayed out. So there must be an authorization somewhere but I can't find where... ditto for the " go to " from a nomenclature, which remains grayed out for all users except the admin (I suspect it's another option but I can't find where it is)
You have to select the groups in the right column. For the " go to " behavior in the BOM, I have the impression that you have the behavior related to a part saved in the contents of an assembly. Since there is no actual file outside the assembly, PDM does not offer to go to where this file is stored.
So the checkboxes in front of the groups you are talking about allow you to manage the access rights to the quick search indeed, but if I am not mistaken, it does not change the fact that " sub-function " of the quick search is grayed out.
Users have access to the quick search (just like the admin) but do not have the possibility to do this search on all versions (because the option is grayed out unlike the admin)
Regular users (all versions in gray and not selectable)
admin (all versions in black)
To go to the latter is however available from the content, and the file in question is not an internal file to the assembly, it exists physically and accessible if I am housed as an admin.
In both cases the function is there but only for the admin.
It could have been a bug in the SP4, I only used the SP5 and never had this problem without adjusting a specific parameter. I checked by disabling different settings and I can never find myself in your situation. Analyzing from the admin account is complicated because it has a very particular profile. No matter how hard I look in the settings, I dry up.
Personally, I find the current way of working more relevant: it forces the method department to ask the design office why it can't find the file and the design office can explain the reason for the change. If the method service accesses the files normally, it will not ask itself questions and work on a file that will soon be no longer valid without knowing it.
NB: I noticed that the quick search only shows what is in the local view of the workstation while the complete search does the search on all the files in the vault (at least in 2020 PS3.0)
I understand your point of view which holds up but the fact that they no longer see the 3D bothers me because the information of the article is stored there in addition the fact that the BE works on the 3D is indicated on the latter in a variable. AND if they don't see the latest version, it's because the design office is working on it. Production may also need to see this 3D even if it is being edited. If someone could confirm Cyril.f's statements about the fact that this is a bug.

On the SP5 it scans everything whether you have local files or not.
Here's what you can find in the help: Using Quick Find - 2020 - SOLIDWORKS PDM Help On the other hand, I'm surprised because we are not set to always use the latest version and all the options are selectable, regardless of the group. Edit: for the record I'm on SW2021 SP5.1 but I remember that in 2020 SP5 it worked without problem and I never changed any settings to make this quick search work (only added the variables)
