I work in several versions of SolidWorks. Currently under 2018 SP5, I am having a problem opening some parts.
I'll take the example here of a screw: the creation tree displays a link to a STEP (PJ "SdW Tree 2018") while in other versions I access directly to the share tree (e.g. under 2019, the same file: PJ "SdW Tree 2019").
Same for the configurations, it is displayed elsewhere but not under 2018 (PJ "Config SdW 2018" and "Config SdW 2019")
I specify that the file is indeed a . SLDPRT , I don't know its origin (STEP converted...?).
I may be saying something stupid but in my opinion:
your file is in SW2019 format, Solidworks does not know how to read files from a newer version, except for SP05 which allows the reading of files from the next generation, but as a solid dead. that's why in SW 2018 you don't have a shaft or configuration.
I think I understood where it came from (partly from your two answers):
The problematic files come from another computer. They were saved from STEP files, under SdW 2018 with the "Enable 3D interconnect" option checked.
Once on my computer, Solidworks manages to open the shares, but not the WWTP referenced by them, because the software tried to open them via SdW 2019. So I find myself with in some cases, the example of the screw, in others an error message where nothing simply opens.
So I had to re-register the STEP in Part without checking "Activate 3D interconnect", and there it works without problem.
Do you know how to prevent WWTP from being read with SolidWorks 2019?
You have to play with the Windows options so that the STEP is no longer associated with SW19. Under W10, on any step file, right-click/property/, there is a "opens with" line and next to it a "modify" button, you can choose another software. On the other hand, you can't choose "nothing", so failing that, I'll put the notepad.
