I'm stuck on a selection in a closed outline 
You have to uncheck the shaded sketch outline option, this will remove the gray background from the rectangle and you can select your circles

Or else by going in the opposite direction (selection in blue to ignore the selected full name traits:
But indeed without the trick of @joris , it is impossible to make a selection per window in a closed outline.
Another solution: manual selection of the 2 circles with control enabled, but I think you already had that.
