I tried to find my answer on the Solidworks forum but not being bilingual and not finding my way around their site (labyrinth rather?!), I looked for something else and found this forum. So I signed up to try my luck here and ask you.
My problem is this: I modeled a small building on Solidworks and I need to convert it into a digital model in IFC format to be able to manipulate it with BIMVision.
The problem does not come from the export but from the result on BIM Vision. My IFC model is not oriented like my Solid file, it is tilted at 90° on one side and it is a big hassle to be able to manipulate it and tilt my digital model in BIM Vision (if not impossible!!). It's as if the XYZ marker is stuck on a wall and prevents rotation and conventional manipulation. However, on Solidworks no problems.
I don't have this problem when I export with Revit which, I know, is more suitable for making building models. But I rarely use it, don't master it and it's quite complicated. If I could solve this IFC file problem with Solidworks, it would save me from modeling my building with Revit and it would be very convenient for me...
So questions: does Solidworks work well for IFC conversions? Did I miss something for exporting? I tried IFC 4, IFC 2x3 I tinkered with some options but always the same...
Another small problem (but just a detail in the end), I have no textures, or even color difference between the elements on my IFC model while I have everything I need on my Solidworks file. Normal?
I'm putting 2 images of my model so that you can see the thing better.
1°) you should see your SW file to check if it is constrained on the good plans (1, 2 and 3).
2°) IFC exports work well with REvit
3°) for the textures it's not surprising because they are plated images but BImvision must have its own textures which with a bit of luck are not in the same format as SW (Bimvision proprietary format ???).
You would just have to look at the location of the textures of BIMvision, the type of format of these textures and finally if it is the same format as solidworks then copy the texture from SW to BIM vision.
Thank you for your answer @Zozo-mp, I went to see quickly for these stories of shots on SW and my front view is good unlike my model on Bim Vision.
I'm not going to look for 3 hours, too bad, it's an opportunity to (re)start Revit and this little garage will do the trick to test what I was shown in training.
SW does not have to be super suitable or very optimized for IFC. Or did I miss things:)
More than the planes or the definitions of view, I would look at the orientation of the trihedron xyz, even if it meant recreating another one. Some software puts the front view in the xy plane, others in the xz plane...
Ok I understand but I don't know how to change the orientation of the trihedron...
By the way, this morning, when I started 3D printing, the Cura software that retrieves the STL files of my SW parts (registered in STL of course) positions my parts in my virtual printer as in Bim Vision, i.e. the parts on the side. On the other hand, no worries since Cura repositions the parts as you want easily.
