Solidworks: Opening AP242 STEP File

Hello

On my version of SLW 2015 SP5, I don't know how to open the steps saved with the AP242 protocol. Is this normal? If so, is there any plans to do so or what minimum version do I need to use to be able to do so?

Thank you
Fabian

Hello;

Yes, it's normal, it's a recent standard and not supported by this version.

Later versions may work with it.

Hello,

this AP242 STEP standard is very widespread today, it is used in particular for the long-term archiving of CAD data in aeronautics.

For those who are interested, here is some information on the specifics of this standard format.

@gt22: otherwise ask for a file in AP203 or 214 version and it should run on SW2015.

Another solution, change version:D

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your answers. I have the possibility to convert the files to step 204 or 213 to use them but I have my colleagues who use CATIA who will get the right license to read/create AP242 steps, which will create a problem... hoping that SLW integrates it very quickly.

Normally SW2017 will allow you to open native Catia files so as said above, a version change from SP3/SP4 will be good for you.

@fabien.c
As soon as the support is integrated into Solidworks, don't worry, we'll come back to talk about it here and elsewhere :-)

It's weird in the "whatsnew" of 2017 (https://files.solidworks.com/Supportfiles/Whats_new/2017/French/whatsnew.pdf), Edrawing pro knows how to read it, SW MDB manages it but not SW (whether it's the standard, pro or  premium version)...

As with all developments, SW is waiting for feedback from its retailers. If few users request the addition of this feature, there is no implementation.

Now, as it is potentially integrated into E-Drawings, we can hope for an implementation in 2018.
