I make a boat hull with Catia V5. I used the Creative Shape Design module to make the hull itself. I have a problem when "extruding" the shell. I use the "thick surface" function in part design to extrude it but I get several error messages:
1.La value of the current offset results in a locally degenerate surface: the part cannot be constructed.
2.Failure to offset locally dead sharp edges.
Have you ever had these mistakes? Do you possibly have another method to advise me to "extrude" this "shell"?
Hello yes, this message is common when the geometry cannot be shifted. RQ: The thick surface function achieves a normal offset at all points of the surface so for the open part of the hull the edge will not be flat. For my part I would work on 1/2 surface (symmetry) I have noted some points that can annoy CATIA. in purple and blue two opposite directions of tangency, in red the passage of the flat bottom has an edge.
Thank you for that comprehensive answer. The problem is not solved yet but I will look for :) Would you have used the thick surface tool to "extrude" the hull?
I would have worked on 1/2 surface by closing on the plane of symmetry and on the top then under PartDesign fill / symmetry / shell which implies that the surface is (the outer shell).
