SW2014 Auto Refresh/Save

Hello

I would like to have your opinion and configuration to automate the backup and automatic refresh on SW2014

I set the save to another Disc on and if I have a crash it offers to reopen the last recording. It's good but when you save it doesn't replace the original file. Is this normal?

Refresh: on SW2014 I often click on the traffic light even after openings edition closing  of a part of the assembly. I had the impression that before that it was done by itself in 2013. Is there a parameter to change?

Hi @ Gerald

see this link http://help.solidworks.com/2012/French/SolidWorks/sldworks/HIDD_OPTIONS_BACKUPS.htm

Backup/Recovery Options

Determine how often you want to make backup copies of your files, receive a save notification, and the folders where you want to store them. The frequency of the automatic backup and recording notification is determined by the number of minutes specified.

To display this dialog box, click Options  or Tools > Options and select Backup/Recovery.

Automatic Backup

When you start SolidWorks after an unexpected system shutdown, the automatically backed up documents are listed under Document Recovery on the SolidWorks Recovery tab of the Task Pane. You can choose to save the automatically saved document or replace the original file by creating a new file.

If you start a second session of the application, you will see a message informing you that the automatic backup will not work. You can continue or close the current session and start a new session.

Make Automatic Backup Saves Every MinuteEnables automatic backup and sets the number of minutes that must elapse before an auto-backed file is created for an open document. Files are closed and deleted when you save the documents.
Automatic Backup FolderSpecifies the folder where automatic backup files are saved. The automatic backup folder should be on your local system. It cannot be a network location or a mapped network drive.
Make Automatic Backup Records After Meshing and After Running a Simulation StudySolidWorks automatically saves backup information after the mesh or study is complete. This option is in addition to the SolidWorks Automatic Backup every minute  feature . This option is only available when SolidWorks Simulation is enabled.

Have a nice day

Hi @gt22 so I made the right choice in my automatic backup settings, and as usual your answer elucidates the question of backup.

But for the automatic refresh?

When is it under sw2014?

In 2013 it was done all by itself at the opening and closing of parts of the assemblies. Now in sw 2014 it doesn't do it anymore even when we go back to the assembly. We are forced to click on the traffic light.

PS: I like the red hat

Logically, Solidworks rebuilds with each opening and each record.

A little Ctrl+Q or B wouldn't solve your problem? Not automatic, but it goes quite quickly.

Gt22, not bad your new cut!! =)

yes also a Q control as @ Bart says

For my cup Christian (old plough) being near me

I'm imprinted on him and I hope he's not going to sue me ;-))

Nice hats guys...

Like yesterday, you wouldn't have a message in the options. Basically, when you change windows to a parent assembly, you have this dialog box (see image). Look in your messages and uncheck something like "The models contained in the assembly have changed.... "

@ benoit I thought about it but I couldn't find anything for less than 5000 pieces (it seems to be an option only for large assemblies)

And as I am not the only one to have noticed this problem in my sector maybe there is someone who has a solution elsewhere.

PS: I'm not Breton but supportive so I opt for the black white red ;-)

@Benoit I forgot, compare to 2013 I don't have this message under 2014=> hence the question

Well, I'm 100% Breton, so stubborn. Don't you have this message (look at the picture)?

Hello

Personally, after a crash, SolidWorks offers to open backups that are called "Backup of..." " and during the recording it replaces the old files directly!

For the reconstruction, I got into the habit of doing CTRL+Q very often...

Well @ Benoit your encor find something.

Make a synthesis of GT22 and your answer and I rate you best answer.

PS: sorry gt22 I prefer the wine because I already have a swing ;-)

Well so summary:

Automatic Backup, go to Tools / Options /Backup/Recovery

and follow the instructions in the online help: http://help.solidworks.com/2012/French/SolidWorks/sldworks/HIDD_OPTIONS_BACKUPS.htm

part proposed by @gt22

For updating child components in a parent assembly, a dialog box normally appears when the parent assembly is displayed offering to reload the children. If this box no longer appears, go to Tools / Options / Messages / Errors / Warning and check "The models contained in the assembly have changed.... "

The box will reappear, you will then have to check "Do not show anymore " and click on "Yes"

part proposed by myself

That's fine with you @SEPM. Gerald?

@benoit => it's a bit part of the price of all that, isn't it?

After that, we'll no longer have the right to elect the best answer.....

So for the others, don't worry, this type of action only happens between 2 Bretons and a Parisian .

I remain impartial and elie the REAL good answer of my questions

PS: Benoit still agrees to uncork a bottle together? ;-)

Still agree, but it's between us and @gt22, you might think that the site is becoming a lawless zone hijacked by its users. ;-)

For those who are taking the thread in class, don't worry, our goal remains and will remain above all to find solutions to your/our CAD questions and appendices!! Spread the word!!!
