Video projectors in solidworks

Hello

I am often required to position video projectors on structures to project on cylindrical screens.

I have a lot of shade problems due to the environment and I have to plan for all this in the CAD.

For the moment I just create a transparent piece that represents the projection cone of the videoproject; The problem is that I don't visualize the shadows.

Has anyone ever encountered this kind of problem, do you know any tools for this kind of thing

Thanks in advance

Without getting too far ahead of myself, I think that SolidWorks can already solve part of the problem by playing with lights: Point, Directional or Ambient. (there are basic ones in all models)

If they are not visible in the Feature Manager (left pane) you have to right-click on the first line of the Feature Manager>Hidden objects in the tree/Lights, Cameras and scenes.

You can add them, orient them, modulate the intensity, etc...

With the RealView rendering tools you can also see ambient occlusions (shadows). But I don't know if it's "technical" enough for your application. Maybe it's just "cosmetic"

Otherwise SolidWorks Composer (ex 3Dvia) could perhaps suit you with the same kind of options but more accomplished.

Hello

There are some explanatory tutorials about lighting under SW e.g.http://www.forum-cao-3d.fr/solidworks-tutoriels/l-eclairage-sous-photoworks-t7162.html

I think it's quite playable on SW even if I would have gone more towards a modeling log which, I think, manages the light better and in a simpler way (Blender for example which is free here : http://www.blender.org/download/ )

I've already tried the problem is that I also have problems with image size, the projos are never wide angle enough and I have to optimize all that. The projection cone must therefore be precise and it is not a cone but a trapezoid projection.

I'm going to try blender to see if I can set a spot

post a screenshot to better understand your problem

you project on a cylindrical surface OK

you have a scattering lens (angle of broadcasting)

See this link http://www.autopano.net/wiki-fr/Comprendre_les_types_de_projection

Are you talking about shadows related to the environment you project in broad daylight?

if it's at night and the only light is that of your projects no shadows related to the environment

if you make a survey of your surfaces that will serve as a screen

a statement of where you will put your project(s)

Making a projection on a surface is not complicated and if you want your lines to be straight it's before your projection lenses which are their role is to distort and enlarge the image but it has its limits

watch this very funny little video to see the projection visual effects which differ according to our reading position on a plan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBNISmZhpSA

Hello

Meri for the answers

Here's an overview of my system, the block in the middle represents a volume of what I need to put in the screen, the problem is to determine the shadows that it will create on the screen.

To answer GT22 we are inside in a dark room.

Have you tried to place a "point" type light in a box simulating a projector with a "hole" for the lens?  The light would then be channeled and would only come out through the lens, which would allow you to see the ambient occlusions!

thank you for the hole and the punctual to the area to walk although not super precise but hey solidworks is not really made for this kind of thing
