Adjustment and rotation welded constructions

Hello

I am currently designing a hemispherical structure and I am having a problem with the positioning of the profiles (rectangular section).

Is there a way to automate the handling so that they take the angle that offers the best fit on their own or do I have to do them all one by one manually?

Thanks in advance

Hello

In my humble opinion, it is to be done "by hand"

And I even think that when it comes to manufacturing, it's going to be hot!!

Hello Solex51

It all depends on two things.

1°) what is your definition of {{automate the manipulation}}

2°) of your SW version because if you have the 2019 there is a strong automation. Watch this video that says more than a long speech.

As @ Hubert points out, there is still a problem for the production. It is the identification of each cut end. Part of the problem can be solved if you do all the laser cutting and if you can plan for laser marking at the time of cutting.

@tous
One thing we don't think about for marking is the misappropriated braille language. A few years ago we had for an assembly that was made of a lot of 5 mm sheet metal parts but which had quite similar shapes although quite different. A real headache to find your way around :-[

As the parts were all equal to or larger than A3, we had made tiny holes in the sheet metal that represented codes written in Braille. After a few hours, the guys in the workshop were doing very well with these codes.

Kind regards

For manufacturing, tube laser cutting seems to be the obvious choice for this type of project.

The idea of marking in Braille is very good. Currently I am engraving the part number with a laser.

I'm on Solidworks 2018 SP5. By automate, I mean that the software manages the rotation on its own to optimize the fit, like the example attached.

Thank you very much

Hello Solex51

Since you are already in the 2018 SP5 version, you would be well advised  to upgrade to the 2019. On the other hand, if it's only to do like the last attached drawing: in my opinion the V2018 and even 2017 already knows how to do it.

If you have a lot of cuts of this type in your overall assembly, then the 2019 version will be a real plus for you in terms of shorter time, for the same result or even more reliability, and also for the workshop which will have less adjustment, especially if everything is cut in laser tube (grinding wheel or file strokes are hidden costs that are always underestimated, which can up to 12% of the cost of a subset).

Kind regards

And I'm very full of the guy who will have to solder all this without deformation... On the other hand, laser tube almost imperative on a chassis of this type.

Hi sbadenis

I think it's not welded but nested with suitable sleeves, otherwise in addition to the problems you mention it's going to be ugly. ;-)
