We were simply wondering with a colleague if it was possible to perform a calculation on solidworks from a STEP file (provided from inventor for example). And if so, how?

This may be possible by opening the step file with Solidworks and then saving it as a part (. SLDPRT)

Knowing that you can manage the simulation by body, I don't see what can cause problems. (Maybe with complex surfaces not resolved in step conversion?)
Then you can try with a cube made in SW, and a cube made in Inventor converted into a SW part. You do the same study on the 2 pieces, and you see if you find the same result

For the moment it seems to work with a simu on a single piece. Now I've been given an assembly so I'm going to see if in terms of contacts, constraints etc it holds up.
