Catia V5 and Catia V6

                 Hello

I'm a beginner on Catia V5 and am already wondering about the latest version that I don't know yet.

     - What are the key differences between Catia V6 and V5 ?

     - What else does CATIA V6 bring to V5?

Thank you in advance to those who will answer me.

Kind regards

I think you have to follow the Catia upgrade training, each version change offers such training

Hello.

The last time I saw V6 was 3 years ago.
The main difference is that V6 is a collaborative platform that relies on the ENOVIAV6 database and interfaces with the various Dassault software but also with other CADs.
The CAD modeler of V6 can be said to be Catia V5, the interface changes sometimes.
There are now only two file formats, CATDrawing and CATPart (the latter can be either a part or an assembly).
The Step license is included.
But the biggest difference is that the development is mainly done on the V6 CAD modeler (it can be deployed on V5 but it is not necessary). Which means that V6 will evolve faster than V5 (well, there's still V4 so we're not panicking).
I hope other users will respond, as I said it's been 3 years and I haven't met any V6 users in my area yet.

One last clarification since V5-6R2012 "R22 is shorter" the compatibility of CAD files is in both directions from V5 to V6 and vice versa (no opportunity to test).

Hello, I agree to do a little training. You will be able to learn the fundamentals of CATIA V5. I recommend you to see http://www.alphorm.com/tutoriel/formation-en-ligne-catia-v5-les-fondamentaux.

Hello

A little late, I arrive on this forum, to answer.

It is necessary to distinguish 2 different generations of CATIA in terms of interface and/or scope of action...

Up to the V6 R2013X, it's "similar" with the V5 with a navigation compass in the center and at the bottom of the screen and since the R2014X, we talk about 3DExperience, the compass is at the top left with a redesigned interface (the user's scope of action is variable depending on the role he plays in the company...)

The 2 remain iso-functional with respect to the CATIA modeler . SKE, CEO, DDR, LO1, FTA,...

On the other hand, the model is managed differently and it's much more meaningful for the designer.

CATIA is inseparable from its database, called ENOVIA.

To do PLM in real time, you have to pay attention to what is requested (version of CATIA, etc.) in the CAD data exchange agreement with your client.

Connectors for the V5-6 R201x (V5R2x) and soon for SolidWorks exist...

V6 is compatible with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, but the best answer is provided by AI (which will soon make the forum obsolete :sob:  )

Hello, we often confuse CATIA V6 and Version 6 ... In fact, historically we had CATIA V2, V3, V4 and then V5 which continues to live today. It is a standalone desktop solution (i.e. software installed locally and the data generated is saved locally by default).
Around 2008 Dassault developed a new version, the V6 in parallel with the V5. the main change was that the data was no longer local but in a database and when it was launched, it was CATIA that we launched and then we went to search for the data.
In 2012 Dassault continued its development and released the 3DEXPERIENCE, a new and more complete platform and at launch we arrive on a customizable dashboard... →This is where the confusion comes in because we are talking about 3DEXPERIENCE but the engine of this version is still V6... so some people say CATIA V6 when talking about 3DEXPERIENCE ... which muddies the waters...:unamused:

So to simplify we have to talk about CATIAV6 (which is no longer used), CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE and the unbreakable CATIA V5...:+1:
