How to convert an STL file to STEP or Part?

Hello everyone,

For the sake of a design I need to convert an STL file to a STEP and then add it back to an assembly.

Here are the STLs I want to convert to PCs.
Connecteur.rar (2.8 MB)

Thank you in advance.
Kind regards

Hello;
Open your STL with Solidworks then with save-sub, choose the STEP format...

  • I don't really see the difficulty, have you tried?.
Personal note: I prefer the Parasolid (x_t) format to the STEP format to promote the reconstruction of STLs in volume.
The second personal note is: why not save them directly in Solidworks format?

Kind regards.

Yes, sorry, I'm not clear enough in my explanations.

I found ends in STL on a download site for 3D prints, the problem is that it is not possible to download in another type.
And I need this part to add it into an assembly and then print it.

That is why I asked this question.

Your approach leaves me ... Perplexed, but good.
Here is the conversion of your two files to STEP format.

Thank you, but could I know you went about converting them to WWTP?

I explained it in my first post...

  1. I open the STL files with Solidworks.

  2. I'm patient...

  3. I go to File/save as/... I choose the STEP format from the list available.

  4. I wait (a long time) until Solidworks finishes its work.

(note: for security I added a 2' step by saving the STL in SLDPRT format... to re-open them more easily in case of a crash).

Kind regards.

Hello, I understood the solution but I don't have the solidworks software.

Could a charitable soul convert these 2 files for me please:

Graceful Hummingbird 3D Model STL.zip (81.2 MB)

Hello

here ==> Graceful Hummingbird step.zip (2.8 KB)

Hello @Scofield

Maybe it's only at home but Solidworks tells me " no solid data in file " when I open the zip steps.

hello @Sylk indeed I tried to export several times, the mesh may be too important, I don't see anything in the export options

I'm surprised that one can transform a point cloud format into a solid body (.stp) without having done a point-to-body cloud transformation first.
So not surprised that the step is empty (no body, no step?)

And when I try to export a stp from one of these imported stls, it fails and shows an " unsupported curve type " error...

great thank you very much

Hi all

I have to make a bas-relief for CNC machining and the final file is requested in STEP.

I first created my model in Nomad Sculpt, then imported it into FreeCAD to export it in STEP. But the problem is that the generated STEP file does not seem valid (impossible to open correctly or rejected by the software of the person who has to use it).
