How to save an SLDPRT file in . OBJ?

I want to save a .sldprt part file in .obj format;

I activate ScanTo3D before saving and then choosing my .obj extension, and then I get an error message: "there is no entity to process in WRL"

What do I need to do beforehand?

Thank you

Hello

This is not possible directly with a SOLIDWORKS part . A ScanTo3D "mesh" (Triangulated Model) is needed

The trick is to:

  1. Save your part in STL format (You can then control the display)
  2. Open the "Mesh File" with ScanTo3D
  3. Save it in OBJ format

Have a good end of the day

what do you mean by opening the STL file with SCANTO3D?

I just use the "Open" tab in SOLIDWORKS or do I need to do something else?

I manage to open this STL file and then when I click on save in OBJ format I no longer have an error message, but I can't find any saved item in my folder

Of course, you need to activate the ScanTo3D add-in

And then you have to take the file format at the very bottom of the list "ScanTo3D Mesh File"

I had checked "see all files" but I still have nothing.

Maybe the vertical scroll bar?

unfortunately still nothing even when moving the vertical scroll

Good evening, what is the interest for you to save it in OBJ, on which software do you intend to reuse your part?

If it's to open it on a 3Dmax or Fusion 360 for example, use the STL that you will open on these softwares.

Or not use SW and more Fusion 360 to model your parts and save them as an OBJ.

the OBJs are automatically integrated into Autodesk suites that have already used this system for 3dmax / Fusion 360.

it's to open it with a virtual reality app

Hello;

Otherwise there is Neil Larsen's Macro: Free_SolidWorks_OBJ_Exporter_v2.0.swp (To be used from Solidworks -> MAcro...)

Available here: https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/54270

It hasn't been updated for a while but is still effective.

Kind regards.

To activate ScanTo3D you must have a solidworks Premium license.

Otherwise, a little tutorial: https://grabcad.com/tutorials/how-to-convert-solidworks-file-to-obj
