When I change direction for my pipe, the bend is not created automatically. I get error messages and I have to insert elbows on my own. Because of this, it is impossible for me to use automatic routing in an optimal way.

A little hello is always welcome when you want to have an answer to a question...
But hey, it's up to me!!
Sorry about that!! Hello.
I haven't done any piping since the training, but wouldn't it be your sketch angle that doesn't correspond to any elbow angle (are you really at 90° on your sketch)
Yes, I'm at 90° every time I change direction.
Hello
If you read the Solidworks help, yes sometimes it's useful, it's to specify in the presence of a leave:
"If you select Always Use an Elbow in the Routing Properties PropertyManager when you start a route, the software automatically inserts an elbow in the presence of fillet in the 3D sketch."
So I think the software has some problems with the right angles. If we go a little further in the help we can imagine that the elbow used also depends on the radius of curvature of our sketch so a sharp angle will rather represent a change of direction and two pipes welded together.
Hoping to have been clear.
Kind regards
