How to Generate a Unique Part Number with PDM

Hello everyone,

I'd like to know if someone can enlighten me on how to generate an automatic and unique part number (either per folder or for a trunk) with PDM enterprise...

The pieces are "numerically" named 001, 002, etc... I would like that when I register as, PDM offers me the first number available to register my piece... Is it possible (without going through a gas plant)? If so, can someone give me the procedure to follow in advance, thank you.

This is a "basic" feature for PDM Enterprise.

You have to use a data map to build the PDM, there was a challenge not long ago to choose the best deonene map for E-PDM:

To name your parts incrementally, you need to create a counter in the administration tool.

Managing it at the level of the overall trunk is simple, on the other hand trying to manage it by business seems to me precisely a gas factory! We should create a counter per case :/

There is normally an option that when registering via SW the number is offered (I don't remember where, sorry).

As already said: After creating the counters (serial number) in the Admin Console

it must be activated in SW:

  • EPDM drop-down menu then Option
  • In the lower area of the window (serial number) select the safe that will use the counter
  • and then enable a counter for parts and or another counter for assemblies.

In general, the counter is rarely activated for drawings (they take the name of the 3D element)

Note: When copying a tree, it is possible to use these counters to rename the copied parts

For the last point indicated by Benoit.LF it's in the last link I posted:

 
  1. In SolidWorks, select the Enterprise PDM add-in menu, then select Options.
  2. In the Vault Section on the first tab, make sure your vault is selected in the vault field.
  3. On the part tab, select "Automatically name new files with serial number."
