How are the links between parts (product, catpart) managed on Catia V5?

I've always had problems managing the links between the pieces.

Indeed I would like to know more about how Catia handles this.

I am in the event that I would like to have traceability of my part updates. Each day with a file and the date.

This folder has a Catproduct linked to catparts.

So far, I've come to create a copy every day.

The problem: From time to time I need to be able to compare previous versions so to superimpose my CADs.

I can't because the names are the same.

Do you have any tips, walkthroughs, explanations to this problem?

Thank you:)

Hello

Indeed you can't superimpose an archive if it has the same name.

For any software (same name = same file).

Edit: I was a bit hasty in putting everyone in the same basket.

Without a data manager, the names must be different.

Usually, we add a suffix to the new version (your copy of the day).

You can also choose to always work under the same name and add a suffix (date or other on the archive).

Whatever the choice, you go through the registration manager:

Hello

From what I've seen, if you open an empty CatProduct and import both files at the same time, Catia will offer to rename the files in the assembly by incrementing a number at the end of the name.

if we open one and then the other, Catia won't want to because of the name conflict.

I don't know if it helps you...

There is no help to wait, this is how catia works

For catia, it's the name of the file opened in session, not the file save path.

So in the same session or in the same assembly there cannot be two files with the same name.

We can open two sessions at the same time but we will not be able to superimpose just compare.

Hello

it seems to me that catia does not propose to rename files to settle naming conflicts, but the File Reference property

So once all the conflicts are settled, you can make your comparison.

Hello

@vince.roullier, indeed CATIA only proposes to settle name conflicts when inserting into an assembly, not when opening individual files in the same session.

Hello

Thank you all for your answers, it makes things a little clearer.

Nevertheless, do you have any solution to overcome this problem?
From my point of view, it would be to rename the shares in catia with a different name.

The risk of getting the file names wrong increases as a result.

So that you understand. I have two products for two different versions of the same system.

To avoid problems with the names of files, etc, I name them the same way. Only the name of the product differs.

Thank you in any case for your help

Hello, indeed, there is no other choice than to change the file names, that's why we have naming rules in companies.

We add to the file name:

  • A version (modification) of a number or letter.
  • A revision (different concept) number or letter
