Tips for the SheetMetalManufacturing tool

Hello

I heard about the SheetMetalManufacturing tool which will save me a lot of time.
So I tried the demo version of the module.
For some parts it works and for others it doesn't.
I would like to know what to pay attention to to get the best possible result and if anyone knows the elements that will make the module fail.
Attached is an example of a file where I would like to unfold all the sheet metal parts. With the DWG that is generated by the module.

Thank you in advance.

Hello @Aurelien_Posson_1

Happy to welcome you on the forum and I hope that you will come often to let us also benefit from your experience and your know-how specific to your sector

Nice set as an attachment Whaouou! :star_struck:

This tool is only on WEB 3D experience if I understood correctly.
This totally new software has no reason not to do what you want (as long as it's sheet metal), especially since you're not a beginner in the business!

I don't know who on this forum knows this tool.

On the other hand, could you give us an example of what doesn't work: it could enlighten us independently of any software.

What do you think?

Kind regards

Hello Zozo_mp

Yes indeed, I do a lot of sheet metal work in the machines we design, and often specific to the customer's request so I don't often have the same unfolded.

The tool is part of the MyCadServices premium catalog integrated into solidworks.
The idea is to have all the sheet metal of your part put next to each other in a single DWG or DXF file.

In this case, on the DWG file that I attached to my request, I only have a view of my part almost entirely each time instead of the separate and unfolded sheet metal that I am supposed to have.

Have you set the export options, to group on a single file?

Hello sbadenis,

Yes, the module does generate a single file on this side, no worries.
It's just that I'm left with a set of ununfolded views on my DWG.

→ Nope: It's a tool from the MycadTools suite...

This is probably the problem, SheetMetalManufacturing has a hard time positioning 2D views.
I think they are superimposed on each other.

You will have to test with an Assembly.

Hi Maclane,

Do you think the problem comes from the "complexity" of the part file?
I wonder if the problem comes from the fact that some files were created with old versions of SW, even converted by saving to a more recent version, the sheet metal function has evolved and this may create problems...
Do you use this module regularly? Do you know the file size limits that can work well?

No, it's my very first time I've tested this module... Sorry.
However, I think, knowing the other tools of the MyCad suite, that the latter prefers to work with an assembly rather than with a parts file.
But your file is relatively interesting even if there are still some external references to Lock/delete).

Kind regards.

Hi all
I use SheetMetalManufacturing to do my MEPs, never a problem (for now...).
For DXFDWG exports I have already had a "bug", if the sheet has an error when unfolding or if SW does not unfold it for any reason, it remains in projected view.
It looks like the screenshot from your last post.
Maybe we should do a little check on this side...
Good night.

Yes, as @a.eriaud says, look to see if a config-flatpattern of each room already exists.
If so, checked that the config is already unfolded, if no flatpattern checked manually on a part that it unfolds well.
I'm in SW2020 so impossible to try

Hello
I did a test and I reproduce the problem with your file, there is a problem updating the view in the drawing in the config-flatpattern configuration.
Views are associated with the correct configurations, but they don't update.
They update only if you open the 3D from the drawing view and switch back to the plane.
I escalated this to development to see how we can work around this problem and make sure that SW rebuilds the view with the associated configuration.

Hello prossignol and all the others who answer me^^
Thank you for your answers.

I also look on my side by simplifying my file or by unfolding only part of the sheet metal.

I was preparing my play in an earlier version to share it.

I also noticed that there is something that is problematic. The plexiglass look in the added piece takes precedence when I unfold the side. Simply remove it to unfold the sheet properly.

But then I still have problems where I only see the edge of my sheet metal and not necessarily isolated from the other bodies.

And if you remove all the flat-pattern and restart SheetMetal?
It's unlikely to work but hey.
Otherwise @prossignol part of Visiativ which develops this software, so unlikely to get around this problem without software modification.

Yes I tried sbadenis.

And I even try to do it with sheet metal work each time.
The flank sheet only seems to work, but in the wrong orientation (you can only see the thickness of the sheet).
And this is the case for most sheet metal.
As you say prossignol, switching to the drawing updates it for me, but each time for only one sheet metal at a time, so I can't export the whole thing properly in DWG.
I'll look a little more if I can achieve something.
I'm trying MycadTools and this module is the most interesting for me at the moment.

Hello
After analyzing the problem, we will add an option to solve these special cases when we encounter a SOLIDWORKS reconstruction problem.
It will display the 3D after each sheet metal body view is created in the unfolded state configuration.
We are currently testing/finalizing the myCADtools 2023 release.
It will be released in early December.

Hello

Thank you very much for your answer.
Thank you also for taking my comments into account

I'll try the module again later.

FYI the 2023 version has just been released, if you're still in a trial period:

Thank you @sbadenis you're faster than me

The option is here:

Philippe

Thank you, I'll look at it closely

I would say more that it's my windows that is faster, since it's the one that showed me the update.
