I'm on Win 7 in Solidworks 2014 and I have a WorkGroup PDM.
I would like to upgrade to Win 10 so I have to switch to Solidworks 2016, I installed it in parallel (SW2016) but I can't connect it to the vault.
I know that the pdm changes in 2016, but is there a way to access and use workgroup still on the 2016 or is there a migration to do?
If so, how.
Because if there's no way I'd be contarit to stay under win 7 to keep my data, and I have until the 29th to make up my mind (I know I'm a bit in a bind...)
- install the vault service on the server in version 2016: it is advisable to be connected locally to the server and sometimes the UNC links are capricious
- Then you have to start the conversion of the files in the vault with the appropriate tool, but it's not mandatory, you can work in a PDM in 2016 with 2014 files (and even several versions) it's simply when opening and saving that it will take a little longer! Be careful, depending on the size of the trunk, it takes more than 24 hours to make the conversion. And you should always keep a backup copy!
But nothing insurmountable, what is the problem exactly?
How many people use PDM?
What is the size of the files in the vault (data)?
For the backup, it's done on external dd I got into the habit of doing it before each version update.
The pdm is locally on the same pc as solidworks for the moment, so no server in the immediate future.
I have sw2014 + pdm client 2014 installed, plus the sw2016 and pdm admin 2016.
When I launch the pdm admin 2016 it tells me that the vault is of a different version and I can't access the window where the name of the server/username is entered.
Thank you very much for the answer I finally succeeded.
In fact you were right, the 2016 customer pdm was not installed properly. When I had the program modified under Window, he offered me the update of the PDM, which he had not offered me at the install.
