As part of a new position I take over some electronic products and It turns out that the case mold needs to be modified. My concern is that no one internally gets their hands on the source design... Designed under Rhino, I only have a STEP export. The recognition of the functions by SW of the step is not possible because some surfaces are intersecting (I don't remember the exact term). My question, do you think it is possible to "copy" the step? I was thinking of using the surface shift. Any opinion?
Hello In my opinion, conversion from Rhino to step is a disaster. I feel that you are going to redo some components under SW and I can already see hair pulled. But if you want to control your molds, this is THE solution. I don't understand "copying the step". Surface offset will not work if the surfaces intersect.
Hello Maybe try body repair (import diagnosis) and see if SW gets out of it (in general it's a hassle but it all depends on the complexity of the model). If there aren't too many surfaces that intersect, maybe spend some time repairing them manually and reforming a volume, SW should do better to recognize the functions.
Is it possible to share one or two rooms in question? This will allow us to be more precise. And reformulate the question about the "copying" of the step. For the surface offset to work, the surface must not have a concave fillet less than the offset. It's better to remove this radius before you do the offset. But the best thing is to see the concrete example. Other solutions are possible.
