Surface piece cut

In an assembly I have a surface part (which represents my client's civil engineering).

In the drawing I make a side cut, but the surface piece doesn't cut off.

Is there a trick?

You can't cut a surface?

Thickens the surface and transforms it into volume

Hello

By making a config with material removal (identical to your cut) in your assembly!

Hello

I believe there is an option to check off for surfaces in the cutting options!

No, I can't let it become a volume.

@lucas, I too thought there was an option, but I can't find it....

In the cutting options of an assembly drawing, in SolidWorks 2014 (but it existed before), there are "Surface bodies" under "Section view", see attached image.

I had seen this checkmark, but it doesn't seem to work (at least under SW2012).

And in your assembly, if you do "Insert > Model Object > Reference Geometry => Check Surfaces" does it change anything?

When the section is created, the surface appears but not cut.

I attach the file for testing.

Well it's quite weird, because in my house it works perfectly! :-)

See image in pj.

PS: I'm in SW 2013 SP4.0

In the upstream and downstream "pit", it looks like (like at home) that there is no cut and that you can't see the concrete slabs.

@flegendre

Well done!

Indeed, there is a pb at the level of the two pits.

And nothing can be done, it doesn't work.

So as recommended above, the simplest: merge the surfaces to have only two (green then brown) then thicken the ones (even of a tiny thickness) and it will work.

And that's good?

@Lucas P a priori yes!

How did you do it? Did you stay in areal power?

In the end, your result is very close to mine, except that I was in the section in not a single cut...

A surface cut only gives you one stroke

The areal function gives hollow volumes

I don't think you can do it

Or maybe by using the cross-sectional view (image attached)???

Yes I'm in surface and I haven't modified the parts or the assembly, but I think it's because I'm in SolidWorks 2014...

@Lucas:

It's pretty much what I want.

There would therefore be a "bug" on the SW2012 SP5.0 version.

Installation of the SW2014 scheduled before the beginning of July: I will do the test again.

Thank you all.

Hello

The 2012 has no bugs, but the ability to cut a surface part is simply a new feature of SW 2014.
