Cut a piece in half and make a fit

Hello

I am an inexperienced user of the big functions of Solidworks and I am drying up on the realization of my part.

I created a hollow piece that I need to cut in half (so far I can do it without any problem) and then I would like to create a fit between the two pieces (as if it were a box). Isn't there a function to do this without going through a time-consuming sketch? I would like it to fit well into each other, even if it takes one or two dots of glue to make it stick.

I attach two images of the object in question, an image of a cut-out and an image of the object as it is to be assembled.

And of course I thank you in advance for your generous help.

Hello

Would you like your piece to be cut out the same way as your 1st picture??? Could you attach your file???

Hello

sorry I answered a little too quickly. Here is a more correct solution.

Re, it's easier with SW in front of you. So here is my proposal:

Outer surfaces offset from half of the shell:

Make 2 planes offset from the one of symmetry.

Restrict the surface with the planes:

Split the part into 2 bodies with the plane of symmetry:

All you have to do is thicken the surfaces by half the thickness of the shell and fuse it with half a part.

Then you can use the combine function to create the other part.

This method allows you to maintain continuity with the curves of the part.

Hello

How will the part be made? And what material?

Based on your answer, we should be able to give you a specific answer.

Alternatively, once you've cut your part into two bodies, hide into one, create a sketch on the cutting face, project the inner loop of your part, and make a thin extrusion.

Do the same for the other part but with thin extrusion removal.

Kind regards.

Hello

I am careful to look at your various answers.

There are unfortunately many things that I don't know how to do, I will test your different solutions and will get back to you afterwards.

I saw that I was also asked for the file, so I put it as an attachment (since I can only attach one file apparently, I put the complete head, without cutting. I then cut the object with a removal of material on one of the reference planes, which passes through the center of the piece)

The object will be printed by 3D printing (plastic filament deposit).

Thank you again for your valuable contributions

Hello Somath,

Here is another solution that uses functions that are not found in the default toolbars, but which are nevertheless particularly suitable for your use.

To find them easily you can use the search bar at the top right by selecting the order mode. You have to think about putting the acents because otherwise it doesn't work.

Step 1: You split your room into two bodies with the top plan
Split function

Step 2 (optional):
You move one of the two bodies to better see what you're doing
Function: Body-Move/Copy

step 3: you use the Lip and rebate function , it may seem a little complex at first glance but, the help is detailed and glossy.

Hello

Problem solved!

The different functions offered do the job very well, and thanks for the tip of the "orders" search field.

Thank you all!
