Surface creation from a 3D scan

Hi all

As part of a project to reconstruct surfaces from a 3D scan in Rhinoceros 3D.

I need to model the different surfaces of a model car from a physical model.

Ideally I would like to create a surface for each component: hood, fender etc... (and thus be able to manage each element independently as well as be more precise about the creation of the surface of the desired component).

Before exposing the different avenues I have explored, if a reader of my question has an approach that he knows and that gives good results, I am interested.

For the moment, here is where I am:

I do a 3d scan of the model which gives me a mesh. I'm importing this file into rhino for work.

-My first step was to want to extract sections from the mesh and then to want to create a surface by section.

PROBLEM: the sections coming from the mesh, I get curves that are often broken and far from "harmonious" to create surfaces. Imagine taking the longitudinal section of a car hood, the curve would be smooth and harmonious while the one I get is full of noise from the scan.

-I tried to create a surface directly from the mesh but again this surface is grainy because of the noise of the scan. It should be smoothed out but I didn't manage to get a convincing result.

-still on the example of the hood I pulled a straight line between 2 extremes of the hood (e.g. from the base of the windshield to the other end of the hood) then I added control points on the right to modify it by hand and thus make it follow the curvature of the hood as faithfully as possible. But with the checkpoints, the result is once again not harmonious.

I think I have given the outline of my research, tearing my hair out on it for a few days it may be that I forget other steps I have taken.

For the record, I managed to get a rhino file from a person who had done this job in the past but I don't have the possibility to get in touch with him to ask him how he did it. I'm putting a screenshot of this file so that you have an idea of what I'm trying to get (and maybe be able to detect how this person did it).

Thank you in advance to all those who can help me or at least guide me towards a solution.

PS: I'm adding a second screenshot of what appears when I "unhide" all the objects created by the person behind this file

Hello

Normally it is possible to integrate rhino files directly into SW.

Have you tried this procedure

Kind regards
