Create curves from a surface

Hi all

I'm currently annoyed because I'm working with pieces that are not related to anything. By that I mean that I am sent parts with very complex shapes of curves and I have to be able to make parts to put them in position. So in a way, I have to pull a complement from curved surfaces without having access to the sketches.
I've already done a surface extraction but I don't know what to do afterwards to extract parts of curves and use them.

Have a good day and thank you in advance!

You're the coins you receive

What format do they have

Can you convert them to solidworks

And using the FeatureWorks add-in, you can't recover your functions?

My pieces are in . CATPart and my company does not have a SolidWorks license

Hello

Surface and curve are two different things?? (curves, sketches, points, etc.) are used to build surfaces.

What is the content of your Graph (geometric set). You just have the result of the construction or also the elements that made this construction possible.

There are a lot of surface functions under CATIA (Extraction, Projections, intersection, etc) not to mention the different workshops like HA1 (healing assistant) that can be useful.

If you can attach the model and explain what you are trying to create, we should be able to help you.

So I can't publish the object, but let's take the example of a boat. Let's say that the boat was sent to me in . CATPart and that it is an unrelated solid. Let's say that for this work, I have to be able to make some kind of wedges so that when emptying a basin of water the boat does not lie on the ground. However, I have no information on the coasts of the different parts. So what I want to do is extract the hull and be able to create the specific supports for this boat from that.

All you have to do is know if you are looking to fit the shape (CNC machining) or if you are looking for basic shapes as supports

4 examples of screen copying

The first two (solid) use the surface as a tool

The following (surface) use projections.

Point press (sphere or cylinder).

I'm very curious to know how to do both. But basically I try to fit the shape by using the surface as a guide. As if we put part of the shell in plaster and then we used this imprint to make others.

How did you do your extraction?

Do you just have the inf surface of the shell (example), or did you take continuity and you have a closed surface?

What you're looking for is close to the two solids yellow and green!!

And why not create a volume right down to the surface

For the extraction, I just went to 'Generative shape design' and then I clicked on the 'extraction' icon and in this way I got the shell in surface. Otherwise, I think it's not possible to work with solid (well, I think).

Hello:

You can work with the Solid. (heavier and less practical to cut).

We can use the extraction of the body of parts (surface envelope, updates, modifications) which you must have done.

You can use the extraction of a part of the surface (lighter will have to be redirected if a modification of the project impacts the extracted part).

As said @gt22 you can create an extrusion to the surface (shape in green on the previous image) options available for extrusion pockets, etc be careful if the shape is larger than the surface in the extraction direction CATIA will not be able to re-limit the extrusion (Message).

Edit it's better with a screenshot

You can cut, thicken, fill, sew a shape with a surface, all the tools are in PartDesign, under the component toolbar, from a surface, the yellow shape uses cutting.

You can build everything in surface (projections, section, ass, etc.).
