In a SW assembly, is it possible to control a distance constraint?

Hello

In a Solidworks assembly: is it possible to drive a distance constraint? For example, when assembling several different parts, the clearance between each part will be 1mm. I would like to vary only one parameter (for example go from 1mm to 2mm) without having to edit each constraint one by one. Is this possible? Maybe via an equation?

Thank you.

Yes, via an equation or the use of a constant (a priori more suitable for what you want to do)

Hello froussel, could you explain to me in more detail the procedure to follow please? Thank you.

Once the distance is entered on the first constraint, double click on the constraint to make the dimension appear on the screen, then right click on the dimension, then "link the value" and there you give a name (in your case something like 'spacing').

Do the same on the second side, but when you "bind the value", instead of entering a new name, you use the previous name (there is a drop-down list: you have to click on the arrow in the value entry box).

That's it, your two constraints are driven by this constant that appears in the "equation" menu that must have appeared in your creation tree (above the basic plans).

The ergonomics of SW are not yet well developed in the assemblies (the procedure is similar on the parts but easier to implement because we work directly with dimensions not with constraints).
