Crosses for parts on the MEP

Hello.

One thing happens to me quite ... strange and unwanted on an old drawing that I open this morning. Finally old:  she is two/three years old

Indeed, when I open it, some of the pieces do not appear on the screen (big box with a cross in it). I checked the references, all the documents point to the file. When I right-click -> open, the room in question opens well. BUT, they are not visible on the MEP (which is quite annoying).

Have you ever had this kind of bug? How did you fix it?

Yes, we've had that before.

It's not your configs or saved views that don't exist anymore.

It is deduced that the pieces have been renamed ;-(

Hello

This is a fairly classic mistake.
You have renamed your room from windows explorer, big mistake!, if I may say so.

So your drawing, which used to point to your room named "x", still points to "x", except that "x" no longer exists because your room is now called "y".

I hope you follow me.

Several solutions are available to you:

First, when you open your drawing, you should get a message like: Unable to find the C:\ users\...\name file of your old parts.
-Do you want to look for it yourself or
- Delete the component
You can then search for it manually

If you don't see an error message, you can do the following:
From Solidworks File > Open > point to your > drawing and click the "Reference" button> you can then double-click on the name of your old part and hover over the new name.

Other methods, from your "empty" drawing: File> Look for the references > and double-click again on the name of your old part, to point to the name of the new one.

Basically, renaming parts or drawings or assemblies for that matter, is the same thing as moving these elements in windows, the result is that Solidworks is lost, and it no longer knows how to find the elements.

THE SOLUTION  IS SOLIDWORKS EXPLORER

To rename or move, or repoint the right references, the solution is to do it via Solidworks Explorer, which will "keep all the references" automatically, whatever the manipulations.

You'll find out for next time!

Hello

I was going to say the same thing as remrem: you have to check on each view if the configuration still exists or choose another one. Then if there are detail or cross-sectional views, check that the sketches defining them are correct.

Edit: a trick that can work: right-click on each view > show!

To be tested!

Stupid thing, but a reconstruction doesn't change anything?

Hello everyone, I have already had this problem as well and despite all the solutions tested none worked... Then in the end it was more efficient and faster to delete the views and redo them... Fortunately, this bug doesn't happen too often.

Kind regards

Nikel the trick of right-clicking > show.

I don't understand the reasons, but at least it's solved! Thank you very much@PL
