Developing a tube with an extra thickness

Hi all.

My problem is the following: I would like to be able to develop a tube with an extra thickness (see photo).

I know how to develop a tube on my own but I can't create this extra thickness.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards.

Hello

By creating a fused part and then inserting a fold, it doesn't work?

Hello

No, when converting to sheet metal, the extra thickness is removed.

Do you want to unfold a sheet metal that does not have a constant thickness?

If that's right, I think SW doesn't know how to handle it. On the other hand, it is possible to remove material after bending. As if we were machining the tube...

But it's not carried over to the unfolded, I just tried... Not an easy question:)

If there is no "constancy" in the thickness it seems to me that SW does not consider this volume as a sheet metal.

Hello

Indeed, SW can only manage bodies with a constant thickness for sheet metal. Try to make 2 overlapping bodies (not fused), then create your presses.

Kind regards

To illustrate what @Benoit said, here is an example:

Frankly I don't see the problem if you know how to unfold a simple tube why not do the same for your overthickness

that you reread afterwards via merge

you end up with your unfold

@+ ;-)

Sorry GT22 but I don't really understand what you mean.

Thank you flegendre for the example, I understand better.

Build the tube in sheet metal with the largest outer diàmeter then you remove extruded  material on the ends.

If it's suitable...

Thank you Mr. Thuillez

Even if the file is from the 2014 version I understand the reasoning and it suits me well, I just wanted to have 2 bodies to be able to manage my removals of future matter more easily.

Thank you

On the other hand, I want the file in 2013 version to see the construction.

Thank you in advance.

Hello

I don't have Solidworks 2013, I tried to make a mini-tutorial for you.

If you are missing any information, ask.

Hello

Thank you Mr. Thuillez,

Impeccable I managed to redo the manipulation, on the other hand I can't do a removal of material like an oblong hole with the depth value of the extra thickness.

I tried using the depilation function by reference to a fold but nothing.

Do you  know why by chance?

Thank you in advance.

And by simply removing material "to the next surface" or "to the surface... " ?

Or click on "Link to thickness" in the material removal function?

Yes Benoit, but when I develop the tube the removals disappear.

Kind regards.

There is another solution, that of creating an embossed "engraving" on the tube, except that the engraving is actually without details. It works well on Autodesk Inventor and most certainly on SolidWorks

Take the example of @flegendre on the front page.

_Il creates the folded shape (Thin Extrusion)

_Insertion/Sheet metal/Folds. There he selects the edge and not the face > We thus obtain the 3 folding functions

_Insertion/Sheet metal/Unfold. There he selects the edge again

_Enlèvement of material to do the "machining"

_Insertions/Sheet metal/Fold. Always selecting the edge.

There we get the unfolded machined machine.

To complete the first 2 steps can be carried out in one by the Insertion/Sheet Metal/Folded Base Sheet function
