Edrawings 2018 - Opening a file step impossible

Hello community!

At the request of our sales representatives, we installed the 2018 version of edrawings to allow the playback of STEP files.

Unfortunately, all three laptops equipped with the software all return the same message when trying to open it:

"Error reading a file"

The laptops are in W7 Pro, 64 bits.

The tested STEP file opens without any problem with a desktop PC, under W7 and Edrawings 2017 (and Topsolid).

On the net it is advisable to update the Visual C++ libraries but without positive results for my part.

Do you have a way to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried with eDrawings 2018 on the desktop PC where the 2017 version works?

A test already to be done

I think you need solidworks 2018 for edawings 2018

but I could be wrong ;-(

Hello

It seems prudent to me to look at antivirus protection or others.

It is sufficient that only certain types of files are allowed to be read for the others to be declared in error.

The problem is that everyone goes for their protective layer and it ends up stepping on the toes, W7 + browser + this + that.

Look at the files that are allowed to be read and/or opened.

For GT22 Edrawing works great on a machine that doesn't have SW for example a regular tablet.

Last but not least, in the STEP files, there are several formats and you should try them all to see if there is not this problem. One of my suppliers noticed this because he receives files for his 3D printers from everywhere and from all software (some software does not seem to respect the whole file structure, especially when there are cascade conversions.)

Kind regards

I'm going to test E2018 on the desktop PC, I'll post again as soon as I get the answer:)

Be careful, it is also likely to need different years of visual C+++ 2012, 2015 etc to install depending on the machine.

and then there is the fact of eDrawing pro or not.

On the pcs with solidworks the eDrawing goes pro but not in standalone installation where you have to enter a license number.....

So, edrawings 2018 x64 with shader support installed on the desktop and laptop:

>> OK on the landline.

>> Not work on the laptop.

Identical antivirus on both devices (McAfee).

For the Visual C++ packs I'm moderately warm to "bump" them 1 by 1 at the install. Isn't there a pack of packs?

Thank you!

well that's already a good start

and not possible to clone the hard of the landline on the laptop

or only part of it

Hello

I have the same problem for the installation of edrawing for creo.

I've been using Edrawing for 15 years with PTC ProE 20 then the Wildfire versions then the CREO versions up to the CREO 2.0 version.

This summer I had to change my system hard drive.

No problem for the reinstallation of WIN 10, CREO, and all the following.......

But it was impossible to reinstall Edrawing for Creo

I have the same messages as you!!

If anyone has a solution I would like to have this info because for me Edrawing is an essential tool.

Thank you for your help

Hi all

After installing the missing Visual Basic packages, the software now runs smoothly. I will close the question.
