Material removal with a predefined shape in SW

Hi all

I'm looking to carry out the same material removal with a slightly complicated shape (therefore taking a lot of time), on different parts of very different shapes (to save a lot of time and limit the risk of errors), and this on SolidWorks 2017.

It can be compared to punching, but not necessarily done on a sheet metal piece.

My question is, can we create a shape and then import it to do a material removal? (and if so, how :p?)

I looked for shape tools, smart components, profile imports (the latter gives a result, but the imported shape is only placed on the origin of the part, I couldn't find a way to move it) without finding what I was looking for.

Do you have any tips to give me (if at least I knew which tool to use, I could then look for myself how to use it).

Thank you!

Hello

Have you tried to create a block?

Hello

With a library function?

You have several walkthroughs

via smart components

you have to make a trial piece after you select what you want to keep

via Boolean operation

Hello

why not make a block of your sketch; and as and when you need it, you place it in your sketch for material removal.

Hello

I first tested the creation of a block (something I had never used before), and apparently it would meet my needs.

The other functions (bilbio and smart component) may work, but I haven't tried it yet.

A question about block files, are there any links between the original block file and the imported blocks? If I modify one or the other, do the modifications follow? (I wish not, and after a few tests it doesn't look so).

Thank you

Hello

No, changes made to a block in a sketch do not change the origin, unless you decide to save the block under the origin of course.

I hope I have made progress on your question.

Yes this answers my question, basically the imported block is an editable copy with no link to the original block file, I was wondering if in case of loss of the original block file, would it have impacted all the files where the block was used.

Thank you and have a good day!
