Error 1406 when installing SW2014

I get this error when I first open SolidWorks.

I am an admin

Hello

Probably the antivirus or anti spy:

Some possible causes of this error are anti-virus software being active during the install or any anti-spyware/adware software running at the time of the install attempt. These guardian programs can block access to the registry. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware/adware software and attempt the installation again.

Hello Flegendre,

Rights must have been skipped on some registry keys (probably by uninstalling another version of SW), the registry key indicated in the message is generally not the key that is causing the problem, here is an article from the Kb SolidWorks:

S-059061
 Question:
How is the following warning, shown during startup of SolidWorks 2012 x64, resolved: "Error 1406. Could not write value SolidWorks Office Installed to key \SOFTWARE\Solidworks\SolidWorks 2012\Setup"?
 Created On:
4/24/2012
 Technically Reviewed Date:
8/27/2015
 Answer:
A screenshot of the warning is attached; as shown in the image, the full path to the problematic registry location is not indicated. Not only that, but the registry location identified is wrong. The registry location that is problematic is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SolidWorks\Licenses

To resolve the 1406 error, modify the permissions of this key so that they are the same as its parent key. Or, delete this key (which may require modifying its permissions, first, to allow the deletion) and repair the SolidWorks installation to resolve the problem.

Note: as indicated by the registry location, this problem is ONLY known to occur on 64-bit PCs.

Have a nice day

the problem is that it prevents me from opening SolidWorks!!

What is the remedy?

The remedy is in S-059061 above.

You have to go to the registry key mentioned in S-059061 and then by right-click authorization, try to give you back the read/write rights on this key.

Oh I thought it was during the installation.

If Mick's solution doesn't work, you have to repair the installation by being an admin and having disabled anti spy and anti virus.
