Is it possible to constrain an annotation or dimension to a view in a Solidworks drawing?

Hi all

I'm coming to you because I can't find my answer on the forum.

I am working under solidworks 2018 and I would like to know if it is possible to fix annotations or dimensions in relation to a view in a drawing.

I am editing hundreds of plans and I realize that some dimensions follow the size of my room and other dimensions do not follow the size of my room.

I put 3 pictures to understand. Each image corresponds to a different height, and we can see that the dimension called "leaf length" does not follow the height of the part, while the other dimension follows the height of the part.

No matter how much I search and test, I don't understand how the first dimension is related to the part and why I can't link the "leaf length" dimension

Do you know how to link a dimension to the evolution of the part, and can we do the same with an annotation.

Kind regards

Hello

So I'm working on SW2018 SP4, I don't really see the difference between the three seen only the position of the sides.

1) For me the dimensions are added manually in your drawing, so you have to insert the dimension from the 3D "model insertion" for import dimension of the model.

2) For annotations they can also be entered in the desired dimension directly in the 3D

3) For annotations in Drawing View, the annotation must belong to the view, so that when the view is moved everything comes with it.

That is my answer to your question.

If you are worried, let me know.

Hello A.R.

Thank you for your answer,

When I insert the model, not all the dimensions that are useful to me appear, especially when it comes to the dimension of an assembly. Or else, I don't know enough to do as you explain.

As for the annotations, they belong to the view and they move well with the view. On the other hand, what I forgot to say is that the annotation is an annotation without an arrow. The view does not move, but it is the height of the room that increases, and the annotation that is placed above the room is covered by the room when it reaches a certain height.

Kind regards

Hello again,

1)So for the dimensioning of an assembly, yes they don't come with insertion of the model, but sometimes the assembly dimensions appear if there is a position dimension in the 3d assembly. And yes, if it doesn't come, you have to add it manually in the drawing, but sometimes it doesn't follow because it's not from the model.

2) For annotations you can link several links or only one concerning a dimension of the assembly or part simply by inserting an annotation and clicking on the desired dimension, and will update according to the modification of the dimension.

I hope I have answered your question, if you wish, I can take screenshots.

@+. Have a nice weekend

Oops!!!

Here is the procedure:

1) insert an annotation and link it to the dimension by starting to enter the text then click on the dimension (it works in 2 directions) and that's it ...@+.

Thank you A.R. for your help, but I don't think I managed to make myself understood.

So I took your example and attached it.

If I take your example, I added a 2nd dimension. And in fact, when the first rating (the one you put in) varies, I would like the second rating (the one I added) to always stay outside the room and not like in the image below.

Good evening

I don't think that's possible.

Maybe see in the grid alignments options
