Hello
When exporting a plan to 3D PDF, is it possible that in the file tree it is the descriptions of the components and not the names of the files that appear? Even if I enable this option in the tree view in Solidworks, it has no effect on the export.
I'm using SW 2017 latest SP and the PDM that goes with it.
I don't know if it works on newer versions of SW.
Thank you
Hello
I would be tempted to say that this is not possible because in fact the generation of a PDF file is independent.
The SLDPRT or SDLASM file are finished files after the recording is complete.
Asking with the same or a different name doesn't change anything because it's just a file conversion.
A bit like a conversion to DXF or any other format that would be done by third-party software.
I don't know if the conversion module is made by SW or by Adobe but it must use standard Adobe routines anyway.
Personally I rename the PDF file by adding a code as a suffix of the name of the SLD file. This code is different depending on whether it is a 3D PDF or a 2D PDF to print the plans remotely. So I always know which PART or ASM it is
Indeed, it is impossible otherwise to tell the difference in the windows file manager between a 2D PDF and a 3D PDF. I never do mass conversion so putting a suffix or changing the whole file name is not too cumbersome.
Kind regards
Thank you for this answer.
Indeed, it depends on the export routine. On the other hand, in fact it doesn't seem to me more complicated to retrieve the description rather than the name of the file itself.
Too bad...
Hello Pascal
You're right, it's not more complicated, except that it's not provided for in the export process.
You can close your topic if we have at least partially answered your question ;-)
Alternatively, with a macro or a Visiativ tool you can automatically replace the file name with the description and start the PDF conversion routine just as automatically. So in your folders, you will always have your MEP file and the "PDF newname description" file. You select the file, you launch the macro and that's it (magic no).
Kind regards
PS: on the other hand I'm a marble in macro but my "super-balèzes colleagues" will tell you if it's possible.
@tous I'll tell you why I don't do macro
Hello
At Zozo_mp, we are indeed curious to know why you don't do macro?
Kind regards
Hello d.roger ;-)
Well, uh! It's because of my mom who asked me and made me swear that I would never be a pimp!
But I may not have understood what she said to me when I was very little. In any case, I swore so it's fucked up!!!
NOoooon not banging your head................... Too late I'm already law ;-)
I have the impression that we are not talking about the same thing.
In the acrobat reader on the left side you can see the tree of the file with all its parts named by the name of the file (in our case the name comes from EPDM) what I would like is that in this tree it is the "description" entered in EPDM that appears, as you can do on Solidworks by selecting "show component descriptions" in the tree view.
I don't see how a macro could help me if the export routine isn't able to pick from the file's properties...
I'll see if there's anything that could help me in the pdmtools....
Thank you.
