Extraction of space dimensions

Hello

I need to extract from SolidWorks, in the most automated way possible, the dimensions of the dimensions of parts and assemblies.

- I was thinking of using the "visualization cube" function, but it doesn't seem to be available in assemblies (I'm using SW 2018 SP5). This has the advantage of storing the dimensions in the document properties.

- I don't know of a quick way to extract the dimensions obtained, for a large number of parts. The information I need is: the name of the document, and the three dimensions of clutter. An extraction in a table would be a plus.

Any help will be welcome.

Hello

I have exactly this question when I was on SW2018 SP4, now on SW2020 SP4 it does it directly.

So under SW2018, you save your assembly as a part and you get the cube visualization and you have the dimensions directly in a small window, but you can't measure. (Sorry I don't have SW18 anymore)

So under SW2020, you can't do it directly with the assembly, but you have to save it as a part and you get your cubic view directly with the dimensions and you can measure directly on the edges of the cube by selecting the measured function.

Well my pc and being processed wait a little as soon as I can I send you screenshots.

Thank you @A.R for your quick answer.

It was my fear that SW 2018 would not have simple measurements of assembly dimensions.

My problem with saving assembly as a part is that my values won't update if the assembly is changed.

Even if I can't automate the manipulation, I think I'll put the desired dimensions directly in the annotation of the assembly.

Hello

Look here in this old post, maybe the solution.

And yes it's the only solution I can have at my level.

So here is a screenshot of SW2020 SP4 with the cubic visualization, with the dimensions of footprints.

I am looking for my question on this subject  on SW2018SP4, I cannot find it. I'll keep you informed just in case.

Kind regards.

Hello again,

I found my question,

Copy/paste and see if it's okay with you.

Thank you for your feedback,

@ac cobra 427, the macro your link talks about looks interesting to me, but when running it in SW it only shows me the dimensions in dialog windows (which is already not bad). Is it possible to put the results in an Excel file simply, or do you have to code a second part of the macro to import the values into Excel? Maybe I missed something.

Hello again,

So for my part I didn't go that far in this search, sorry.

But I'm interested in this subject all the same.

... To be followed cordially.
