Nastran input file (.nas) => Catia V5... What is the solution? => STL recovered... ouch!

Hi all

I come looking for help, because I am in need of a solution.

As part of my project, we received a .nas file (https://www.filesuffix.com/fr/extension/nas)

Working with Catia V5, it was impossible to open this file of course, so we rebuilt a CAD from the mesh using the ANSA software (calculation tool, which allows you to extract a CAD from a mesh).

However, the result obtained is approximate, which means that the surface is not clean, smooth, but composed of a multitude of facets (see PJ).

Do you have any ideas? Is there any other software that can extract a CAD from a Nastran input file?

Thank you very much in advance!

If you have any questions, please feel free :)

I don't know Nastran specifically. But it is a calculation software that works on mesh models, hence the facets. So I doubt that you can recover better.

The easiest way is to ask the person who provided you with the . NAS to provide you with the template that was used to generate this file.

Thank you for your answer:)

I managed to recover a .stl of this file, all that remains is to rebuild.... but it's not a done deal^^

Hello

The best process I think is:

Rename the . NAS in . DAT (the Import/Export extension. CATIA's DAT is bulk Nastran)

Recover NASTRAN format in CATIA FMS

Create the mesh image and export a text file of the knots' coordinates

Importing the point cloud with DSE

Triangulating and reconstructing surfaces with QSR

Good luck!...
