Hello
I just got SolidWorks 2018 on my pc.
The use I'm going to make of it is rather 2d drawing in dxf, not really drawing, moreover I had no training.
I have already made a few 2d plans without too much problem.
On the other hand now I have a step assembly and I would like to make a 2 of some parts of this assembly, how should I proceed.
I saved it in SLDASM format but I can't find how to isolate a part of this assembly and make the 2D plan.
Thank you in advance for your help...

Hello
It all depends on how your STEP file was made. Do you know what software was originally used to generate the WWTP?
How to do it: In the creation tree (usually the left column) you can see the number of surfaces that your assembly makes.
If you have more than one, you can use shape recognition and thus you can save your parts individually and then rework them.
On the other hand, you will lose the constraints of the assembly in any case.
Can you post your assembly so that we can look it's easier.
Kind regards

Hello
For confidentiality reasons I cannot attach the step file
I attach a screenshot of the step file once opened with solid

To make a plan of a part from the ASM: open the part (via the small panel that appears when you click on the part in the tree) then have a drawing created from the part (by scrolling down the new document icon)

Hello Stef
Doesn't he have to do the conversion from WWTP to SLDPRT beforehand to be able to do the MEP.
Kind regards
Hello
Right-click on the said room and open it and it should open in a new window...

Hello
You open your step file, you save it in sldasm format, which normally also saves all component parts in sldprt format and all subassemblies in sldasm format.
You re-record everything by the "save" button
You do File / Look for references to check that everything went well, if you get the message "You must save the file before performing this operation. Do you want to continue?" you say Yes.
Normally, you should have access to the "Open room" button by right-clicking.
Kind regards

Hello
I followed d.roger's procedure but I don't see the command opening the room.
I did a test with an asm program created on solid, there I have the open room function.
I'm attaching a step file that has the same problem
Have a nice day...

Everything works as it should with your file:
Try restoring your settings.

Hello
I think it uses 3D Interconnect. The behavior with the steps is not the same from memory.

Hello
You have to close your step file then you follow the following procedure:
- Tools ==> Options ==> Import and disable 3D interconnect (see attached photo)
Then you open the step file and you can right-click to open your parts separately.

If the procedure I gave you doesn't work, can you send me a screenshot of your import options?

FYI, in SW2017, the "Enable 3D interconnect " checkmark is not in the same place as on SW2018, see HERE .
On the taki file, for me, with or without the "Activate 3D interconnect " checkmark the operation is strictly the same, everything works normally and I have access to the "open room " button by right clicking.
Kind regards

Thanks ludo, by unchecking 3d Interconnect it works, I can open the room and save it separately, finally do what I want.
Thank you all for your help and have a good day
