Winding function

Hi all

I have a problem with the "deboss" function of the winding function, indeed the function automatically selects the part to be debossed and I can't select the other part...

For example, in the attached image, I'm trying to keep the elbow and remove the excess sheet metal but the function does the opposite.

Does anyone have a solution??

Thanks in advance

Hello

There is already a rule to be respected, which is that your winding sketch should not be larger than the part  (except in the case of a complete cylinder.

It seems to me that the left line of your sketch is too far from the part on the right cut into a comma.

Moreover, in the creation tree, I don't see how you bent your sheet metal in rounds. The winding function is not made for this in my opinion.

You should post your piece to see more clearly and tell you what possibly goes wrong.

Kind regards

At the sight of the sketch it is indeed the exterior part

at the elbow that is taken into account

so if it's the elbow that you have to keep

the sketch must represent the bend

Here is the part, the bending was done by the sheet metal function

Hello

This confirms my first impression. You are using a function that is not intended for this.

You use  winding-deembossing instead of using simple material removal. But it's not annoying because the problem comes from your sketch which is not good. one rating is wrong. I respected your way of doing the main shape, I only corrected sketch 8.

You have to reason as for a removal of material where it is what is in the sketch that causes the removal. In your case, you asked to remove all the sheet metal, which was obviously not the goal.

I am enclosing the image of the sketch that you need to modify.

If you are in V2019 I can pass you the modified file.

Kind regards

Zozo_mp The removal of material will be "normal" in the sketch plan, it will not give the same developed length as with a winding, am I wrong?

Hello

Not if you do the material removal from the flat sheet with the unfolded function.

@Ac cobra or @GT22 or other colleagues will confirm how to do it.

Here I only modified the sketch of the winding without modifying your design. On the other hand, for me it's easier to remove the material and bend afterwards (probably because I always have in mind what happens in the workshop. But with the winding function it still works.

Kind regards

Good evening@thibcapelli

You can also close this topic by choosing your question as the best answer.

Thank you

@tous I think I've finally understood what the point of designating the correct answer  MDR is

It's funny to link this question to this one (https://www.lynkoa.com/forum/solidworks/probl%C3%A8me-courbe-projet%C3%A9e)

. We can see that the problem is almost the same... The interest of giving a fairly broad context to our questions...

I confirm what zozo_mp said, if you go through an unfolded and then do your material removal and then you fold it will work properly and your cut closer to reality.
