I've been experiencing a lot of slowdown when designing my assemblies for some time.
There have been several adjustments:
Hardware change (from a fixed tower to a portable workstation)
Setting up a new SOLIDWORKS configuration (document template, custom property, some macro, ...)
I work 100% on the PC room (unless I missed something in the solidworks configuration)
No PDM
The main problems I encounter in assemblies are:
When I add constraints by selecting two faces, the window with the constraint proposals takes more than 5s to display
When I want to move a body, the IF one does not move to the 1st selection but to the 2nd or 3rd
In a slightly more complex assembly including a few repetitions, symmetry of the part (not symmetrical), I encounter very big slowdowns for the reconstruction of the whole
The equipment: Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) W-11855M CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.19 GHz BIOS version: DELL inc. 1.15.2 as of 09/08/2022 RAM: 32.0 GB (31.2 GB usable) System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64 Processor Windows 10 Pro 22H2
Do you have any idea where this kind of problem comes from? Is it possible that this comes from the configuration set up?
To test if this is from your configuration, reset the profile. If it's a recent version of SW just run SWRX:
Then click on the blue link to skip the user profile and launch SW with the typical profile (only on the next session, then the user profile reappears)
If it's quick during the test, it's because your profile needs to be reviewed. If it's the same thing, run a diagnostic test with the same software (2nd tab), or even a performance test (last tab)
Hello In addition to @sbadenis's answer, it should also be specified if there is an additional graphics card or not (type of card and driver) as well as the SW version. What can also influence performance is the number of components in the assembly (or their complexity), so we should go into a little more detail about the problem.
I don't remember that the 2019 was slow on the ASMs. On the other hand, an R525 driver for the 2019 is much too recent. For the 2020 with the T1200 we are at the max on R470, nothing certified for this graphics card for the 2019. It can come from there, to be checked by putting an older driver Hardware Certification (solidworks.com)
Properties do not slow down a part or assembly. I confirm @Cyril.f's analysis for the driver and I would try to install an old driver as well. Hoping that tonight more compatible because the Quadro T1200 seems to have been released in 2021, after the last SP of SW2019.
I share with you a document that was made by our trainers to optimize performance in SOLIDWORKS. It dates from 2022 but I think it can give you areas for improvement!
