Import an image into the background of a room (excluding drawing)

Hi all

My webmaster photographed a (manufactured) product that I had modeled. He would like to have a wired image of my room and that it coincides perfectly with his photo. He would like to create an effect on the pages of our site where we go from a wireframe to a photo of the real object.

For this I would like to insert his photo in the SW environment of the modeled room to be able to position my camera and adjust the perspective so that my view matches his photo. Then I could create a drawing from this view, exportable in pdf.
The problem is that except in a drawing, I don't see how to print an image in SW.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thank you!

Hello

Inserting a decal wouldn't work?

Hello

A copy paste should work or drag dropped. ..

Hello

You can import an image into a sketch.

Sketch --> Tools tab --> Sketch  Tools --> Sketch Image

You have to go to the display manager (blue/green/red/yellow sphere in the creative area)

Then right-click on "Scene" then "Edit Scene" and finally "Browse" and choose your image.

Hello

The simplest way go to tools option Color section and there you can put your photo in background image.

But you want a scene for presentation?

It would be easier to orient the image if it is to confuse it with your room.

A copy and paste doesn't work, I only have a jpeg file logo:(

On the other hand, Coyote's solution works very well. The only problem is that my image is distorted because it's not the same format. Anyone know what format is right for a background image? This is the same format as for the photoview background.

Thank you!

Hello

I guess your image has to have the same proportions as your screen so as not to suffer distortions...

It's up to you to create a shot that corresponds to the angle of your photo

Once you have done you integrate this photo on this plan via Sketch Image Insertion

For the proportions it is enough to make sure that the enlargement is proportional

For the size of your photo, you just have to cut it beforehand or create marks that will coincide with your sketch line which corresponds to the size of your piece

This line can be hidden and which of + is you can if you wish to play with the transparency of your piece

You have more options (transparency, control of dimensions and orientation) by inserting one image per sketch. On the other hand, in renderings with Photo View, the image is not taken into account, but you can have it in the preview with the SW window.

The problem with insertion in a sketch is that the problem is taken backwards. The difficulty is to perfectly align a view (or the plan as you wish). Both in terms of axis, roll, rotation, perspective, etc. And we need all of this info to create the outline of the sketch, which is impossible. You would have to go back and forth between the clip options and the concordance between the insert image and the object. Hell!

By far the best solution is background image insertion. We have the image, with all the options of rotation, translation etc. the object is perfectly placed. We create a new view, which we insert into a drawing. Expor in PDF, (we catch the 2, 3 small possible discrepancies between virtual and reality, between theory and practice :) ) and that's it.

The problem is that I can't get the info on the resolution of the workspace (all the gray part when you close all the windows without closing solidworks). Info needed because the image is adapted to the space. I don't understand why this info is not available! It offers to import an image but unless it is exactly the same format as the workspace, it is bound to be distorted.

Taking a screenshot, the image looks like it's 1280 by 605 so 1/1.97

Hello

otherwise just do a Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V of your image in the window of your room (apart from a sketch), then you can manage the dimensions of your image, move it and orient your room as you see fit.
