Impossible to launch a simulation on an IPE beam gantry at the aiiiiiideeeee!

Hello

Here I have created a gantry in ipe 160 beam and I would like to make a simulation with 2 tons distributed on the central beam

I added 2 plane supports on the lower plate and 2 fixed geometry on the upper plate.

On the other hand, it is impossible to put contacts without penetration (solidworks tells me that it is not supported on ??? beams)

I manage to mesh, but still at fault on the analysis.

Improper or no target define for contact element 1509

Can anyone help me???

thank you in advance

Hello@nichtre

No difficulty for this rather basic simulation!

On the other hand, you have to fill in all the parameters. You have not attached your settings to the file.

You are missing:

- The materials (I put an S235J0)
- Contacts between components (integral and not penetrating, which is only used in specific cases)
- External loads = distributed mass under the beam
- Gravity to indicate the direction (towards the ground obvious in your case.)
- 120 mm mesh.

I'll let you look at the result in the attached image.

A little advice if you don't mind ! It is not a good idea to put a distributed load because unless your engine is fully fixed on the beam (which by the way would stiffen it) you are not in a simulation of the real case.
If you have a roller hoist on your IPN, you need to define two or three unfavorable positions and do three simulations for each position. In addition, if your load is suspended, let's say in the middle of the height or just a few centimeters above the ground or several meters below the ground if the engine is lowered into a pit (isn't  it :-)  ), your simulation will be wrong because it does not allow you to take into account the buckling or worse the spillage due to any swaying because the latter is quickly formidable (2 tons starts to do).

Kind regards

Thank you very much for the answer. it helped me a lot!!

after your remarks are very fair.

This simulation was a 1st draft to see the movements.

On the other hand, how can we see the resistant constraints???

Good evening @nichtre

If you want to have a better appreciation to see the constraints, it's all about volume.

For the constraints, it is enough to make areas on the plate that receives the inking bolts.

In the meantime I put all the mass on a restricted area like for a hoist carriage it goes finger in the noze ;-)

I gave you everything in volume and made a little Von Mises to please yourself.

Note that as it stands, you have a safety factor greater than four in abstacto of the resistance of  the ceiling anchors at the end of the beam.

Can you specify what you call "resistant constraints" because depending on the person it varies ;-)

Kind regards

PS: which version of SW do you  have?

Hello

Thank you for all this help.

ok so for the constraints you have to go through everything in volume it works.

Yes, when I talk about resistant stresses, I am talking about von mise constraints, check that the stresses in the gantry do not exceed the value of the Re material with a safety coef.

Thank you for everything, I'm going to get through it now!!!
