Inserting a part within a room - Links? - SolidWorks

Hi all

When you insert a part A into another part B, it creates a new body.

But is there still a link between room A and the body created in room B?

Thank you!

Aurélien

I don't know well but there is no option when inserting?

Hello

You can list the external references to break them if you want:

Yes.

Edit

the -> after a function says that there is an external link and this is the case when importing a part into a part

Hello

Yes there is a link, by the way you can see it on the name of the function: it is followed by a "->".

To break it, you right-click on the function, "List external references", then "Break everything". The name will then become followed by a "-x".

@Tomalam, no option when inserting one part into another [EDIT], you're right :)!

@PL, you were the fastest

@sbadenis, thank you

@Benoit.LF, thank you for the clarifications!

Hi Aurélien,

Yes there is a link unless at insertion, you check: Break links, if you check this option, then the functions of your part will be inserted into the original part.

After the fact, you can't check this option when editing the function, so use the .PL method to break the external references if you don't want them anymore.

Have a nice day

Mick

@Tonalam rightly, there is an option, see attached screenshot

On the other hand, once the part is inserted, it is impossible to check it, you have to re-insert your part

@sbadenis, oops, I just saw your post update! But thank you all the same!

Oh great thank you Mick! I hadn't actually seen this little box!

[EDIT], I don't have this box, maybe because of ePDM or because I'm in a soldered part?

Wouldn't you have another piece already inserted in your room, if that's the case it's "normal"

Otherwise, wouldn't the part you insert have external references?

Mick

Oh yes absolutely, this part I'm trying to insert is part of an assembly, it was built via external references of this same assembly

Ok, so you won't be able to use this option
