Slow opening assembly

Hello
I'm on SolidWorks 2022.
Since the return from vacation, it takes a lot of time to open certain files.
For example, a file that opened in 1 minute 30 took more than 7 hours to open!
Once opened, the file was saved in less than a minute, which rules out a network problem.
I can't find a solution to this major problem.
Do any of you have this problem?

FYI, in large assembly mode, the file opens quickly.

Thanks in advance

Hello
You can do a performance evaluation once the SSA is open ("Evaluate " menu ). This will allow you to see which sub-assy is blocking or which part file (why not).
Otherwise, once opened in large assembly mode, switch to light mode at first, then resolve.

Méthodologie optimisation

Hello @Yann_Georges

A small methodology that can help optimize your assembly and determine what is causing problems. I use it when I have the same problem as you. Have a nice day

I think I have a lead for my problem.

This assembly has a lot of virtual parts.
Otherwise, this file was initially under SolidWorks 2021.
The assembly file has been converted to SolidWorks 2022, but apparently all the virtual parts have remained in the 2021 version.
It is therefore necessary to open the assembly and then edit each virtual part in order to convert it to the new version of SolidWorks.
At least that's what the performance analysis tells me

Hello

A Ctrl + Q on the assembly AND a backup should therefore solve the problem the next time the file is opened (since SW should save all virtual files in the latest version).

Hello

I tried the CTRL + Q but it doesn't offer me the recording of virtual parts.

I opened my assembly and made sure that all the virtual or non-virtual components were upgraded to SW 22.
and I don't see any improvement.

At the same time, I reinstalled a version 21 to open a backup copy of my file. And there in 1 minute it is open.

So I installed an SW 23 but same problem as on the SW 22...

Hello;

It is not necessarily only the virtual parts that can explain the slow opening but also all the configurations of other components (To be updated too).

If you use read-only components (I'm thinking of library elements among others...) they too will have to be updated to the new version of Solidworks (+their configurations of course).

Another possible avenue is document templates (parts, assemblies and drawings) if they are not recreated under the new version they can cause major slowdowns (especially if the gap between the versions is large).
Be careful, I say recreated , not converted, it is necessary to start from scratch for the models (Solidworks recommendation).

For me, nothing justifies going from 1m30 to more than 7 hours.
Yes, you have to convert the files when you open it.
But even when I open old assemblies saved in versions from 2012 to 2020 (SW2023 currently) and more than 30,000 parts it doesn't take as long, far from it dex2-x3 ok but no more.
There are surely one or more components that are causing a stir!
Possibility to put half of the components in the deleted state and test if the opening is much faster if yes we caned in which half the pb component(s) are.
Otherwise reversed the room removed and apparent.
If no improvement, good luck it's going to be complicated!!

Virtual parts normally register each time they back up their parent assembly.
The Ctrl Q forces everyone to rebuild and the assembly registration behind it should save all the virtual parts in the latest version.
Then if your assembly also points to other parts / independent assemblies you must also save those in the latest version.

I just redid my document templates from scratch and no better.
All my components have already switched from SW21 to SW22.

When opening files, the popup that opens indicating the 3 steps of opening the file with " Component Openings", " Assembly Rebuild " and " Graphics Update" behaves really differently.

Under SW21 as soon as the popup appears, we see that it loads the parts.
Under SW22 the popup is displayed but opening the components does not display anything.
chargement

It starts to show progress after a good 2 hours.

FYI same popup under SW21 on the same assembly (copy kept in SW21)
chargement sw21

The last time one of my assemblies took more than 10 hours to open, they (You know the computer scientists who don't ask themselves what the hell Solidworks can be used for)... so " they " had just changed our server and the Solidworks opening settings were in " Resolved " rather than " Light ".

Note: I don't usually like to use the " Light " mode but when we receive plans from our customers it is sometimes wiser to go through it.

The fact that your file only took a minute to save while it took 7 hours to open, I will look at the antivirus on the detection of Server=>Computer" traffic. (And possibly to the management of the Server backplane).

It's never nice to come across this type of situation when you come back from Leave, you always wonder what could have happened when your back was turned...

The thing is that even if I do a Pack And Go stored on my PC it doesn't go faster.
So it excludes communication problems with the server.

The fact that Solidworks 2022 and Solidworks 2021 are configured in two different languages makes me think that their parameter settings are different too:
image

=> Saves the Solidworks settings for both versions. (under two different Names (for safety))
(*.sldreg files)

Then under Solidworks 2022, import the 2021 settings to see what happens.
If the result is satisfactory, all that remains  is to compare the settings of the two versions...
