License

Hello

I recently had to reinstall Solidworks on my laptop.

I must have made a mistake because Solidworks tells me that the number of users is exceeded.

How do I free the license so that I can put it back on my new install.

Thanks in advance!

Hello

On the old PC you have to go to the help menu and then click on transfer license.

Be careful to be well connected to the Net.

The thing is that I can't release the license, since the workstation has been formatted!

I don't know what a floating license is. For me, it's a classic license.

Re

So the only way if the workstation has been formatted is to call your reseller so that he can deactivate the license of the old workstation.

That was the point of my question.

Is it possible to deactivate the license ourselves?

So yes but before formatting, otherwise call the reseller.

The small problem is that my dealer is not available... :/

I just had my dealer on the phone.

Dassault changed its policy, and as a result, the use of a second license so that the cartoonist could work at home was no longer possible!

It's really nonsense. So, the only (legal) solution is to transfer your license every day...

Really practical! Imagine you forget to transfer the license one evening, you can turn around the next day if you need to work on it.

I don't really understand Dassault's approach and the why and how....

Any opinions?

@ Bart, it's true that it surprised a lot of people that solidworks stopped shared licenses (very useful to work at home in the evening) but the problem is that large BEs of 20 workstations for example only had 10 licenses .... at XXXX € the license the loss of income is quickly made !!!!

And yes @ Bart it's what I gave you as links in my previous answer

Thanks for the tip guys.

That was my little rant of the day ^^...

It seems to me that the "dual license" was a thing imposed by American law and that Dassault always wanted to circumvent it.

@David be3

It is almost impossible to use both licenses at the same time.

Licenses have been "monitored" online for a little while. A central office receives the information of the double activation and sends an email to warn of an anomaly (possible hacking of the license). If this is repeated, it is deactivation of one of the licenses (randomly) and, if it is repeated again, permanent deactivation of the license.

In the case I experienced, the first email arrived after two days. I doubt that the large BEs will take this risk.

Yes, it confirms what I thought.

They always know who is connecting with which license.

Why not simply disable abusive licenses and let those who play the game do their job!

Pay, pay, always pay... This will eventually push us to make mistakes....^^

I didn't understand everything.

They can 't know which one is the one of the company or the one of the home so they saw one at the nose.

It can also happen that someone uses your station at work while you work from home.

If software companies were philanthropists, it would be known.

Look at Autodesk which has forbidden in these T&Cs to resell the licenses of its software. Basically, you don't buy an Autodesk license anymore but you "rent" it

Our dealers know very well which PCs are using Solidworks in real time.

They have the name of the windows account, its ip address, its daily usage time per workstation and so on.

They can see everything, then everyone does what they want, personally, it's not going to change my life. =)

I just wanted to shout out, and I see that it's misinterpreted:p

I don't  think it's happening at the reseller level.

It seems to me that the email came from much higher than that.

I'm not sure they have access to all this information (and especially the right to use it). Example: if several PCs are connected to the same router (a frequent case in a company) they will all appear with the same IP for a user outside the network.

I don't misinterpret your rant, I just have a hard time seeing where you are going and just give additional information in my possession on the subject. ;)

what he wants, or what he can. I had asked my boss to activate the home license. He refused precisely because a colleague was likely to use my station while I was absent.

On the other hand I have the right to use the station on a personal basis (outside working hours, Corsican egg)

For several years, I have been working at home after work.

It never caused any problems, since I was the only user, and I used my license at work, and the one for home.

I have already had to release licenses.

So I called my dealer who gave me this information.

It gave me the name of the workstation where the license was active, the name of the open session, as well as the ip of my server.

Then finally, time passes on the one at work, and on the one at home.

So if resellers have access to this information, I guess Dassault has it too.

We can talk about it for hours, but it won't change anything...

Since April it's no longer possible, so the only solution is to release the license every day, and don't forget to put it back in so that you can use it the next day at work.

There you go, I think this post can be closed =)

@Pascal: Are you a reseller? or just a mega fan of Bernard Charlès^^

On the other hand, you talk about American law, but it seems to me that Dassault Système is a French company
