Cone separation line

Hi all

There you go, I would like to be able to put a weld in the plan of the cone, this one is located on the top in fact it is the closing weld.

So I need an edge, so I thought about the dividing line but impossible to get there.

Can someone help me.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards.

I have your part but I don't see where you want to put the solder, is it possible to make me a small jpeg of what you want to get?

Hello

Does this short tutorial / forum answer the question?

http://www.forum-cao-3d.fr/solidworks-questions/extrusion-sur-un-cone-bombe-t10953.html

There is also a fairly well done MyCADBlog article:

There you go

So by doing a tangent plane, a sketch, and selecting that sketch and the surface to create the dividing line, it doesn't work?

Ah, I was wrong, I validated the correct answer.

No it doesn't work, grrrrrr.

It seems simple, however.

Is there an error message then?

Hello, in fact the problem is that the conical surface is a single surface.

To be able to make your dividing line, you have to split the entire face and not just one side.

Basically, you just have to select the face plane and the two surfaces (the cone and the conge) and make an intersection type separation line

Indeed it works to these ones ready that the line is on either side.

a dividing line must necessarily cut one side entirely to create another face ... If the dividing line creates not two sides it can't work.

So necessarily if you only want a line on one side:

or we make a dividing line across the whole room,

either we cut off the head of the cone a little,

or we make a dividing line from a rectangle thin enough (0.1mm for example) so that the dividing line forms a loop.

I found it's simple sketch on the top plane, then projection by selecting the cone and the fillet, which are 2 separate surfaces.

Thanks for the help.

Have a nice day
