Model of a car in "Karting" format

For the start of the school year after the holidays, I have to take care of the electronic part of a car in "Karting" format so driveable. That is to say that I should create the actions of the car: acceleration, braking ect ...
We have a workshop available to test our models before finalizing with displays, computer and everything that goes with it.
My question is the following: Concerning the actions of the cart, do you think that a "real size" force sensor for a car can also do the trick on this kind of construction?

What type of signal do you need?

Do you transmit it directly to the ECM or do you go through a controller on your machine?

What are your sensors for? Measure the driver's effort or give the order to accelerate? 

I looked quickly but I have the impression that your sensors are attached to the existing pedal to measure the effort exerted by the driver. Aren't accelerator pedal sensors more angular sensors?

Is a force sensor the best fit? The goal is to know the force applied to the pedal or its position (to deduce the acceleration)?

In the second case, a rotary or linear encoder will be more suitable

It will indeed be easier to control a movement rather than a force.

 

The slightest jolt will change the effort and therefore your acceleration.
