Flattening surface_solidwoks

Hello Alfoncpasmamob ,

It's exactly what I needed :star_struck:.
Only I have already tried this function but on my part it is grayed out:

SW 2020 for me, same procedure as you except that I have access to the unfolded, why in the creation tree of your model are sketches and grayed out functions?

Thank you for your feedback.
I'm on solidworks 2022 but a standard version. Maybe that's where the problem lies?
My greyed-out sketches are deleted states after various design attempts
Even when I open your room I can edit your function but I can't create another one...

Hello, indeed you need a premium version to lay surfaces, I had already had the trick, you can use this function on a premium version and then open the room on a standard version and edit this function but not the other way around... I don't know if this is still the case with the latest versions

I think so, what do you want to do with these unfolded, I can make them for you if you want, cut out then?

Hello Scofield,

Fine thank you.

If it is possible for you yes, thank you

Hello

Regardless of whether or not the flattening function is present in the standard version of Solidworks, a sphere is not a developable surface.

I have the feeling that a solid veneer, i.e. wood, will not have a sufficient deformation capacity to fit a spherical " suitcase corner".
Except in the presence of large radii of curvature, and with the help of heat and water vapour. Or by breaking down the surface into strips or sectors. In any case, the implementation will be a problem...

To conclude, the flattening of surfaces by Solidworks is only an approximate digital transformation, which will at best allow us to define an approximate template.

Hello

The veneer sheet are relatively deformable.
We regularly plate curves with a radius of 100 to 150 mm.
The idea was to get an idea for the workshop but also for the calculation of the (approximate) material area.
The production has already discussed it, they will make a cut in the " center " of the rounded corner.

A cup? Or several in each corner...

In their idea it was only one in the center, but when I see your visual...

Fine thank you

Would it be possible to have a flat layout like in the picture:

This is done in the attached file, in SW 2022 version.

Even if the spherical zone is divided into sectors, with the flattening quality set to the max, the surface is still not developable. There is a risk of missing or overlapping at the time of plating.
The ball is in the court of the " production "...

A second configuration defines the sector alone (the four are in principle identical).

Hi all

Thank you m_blt for the file, thank you.
Thank you all for taking the time to answer me and for your help.

We will discuss with the production afterwards.
