I have in mind (I don't have the software) to create a specific profile to use it with the metal structure module (I don't know the name Solidworks, at Inventor it's FrameGenerator).
Is it possible to associate this profile with a specific drawing?
That is to say, if I have 6 times the same profile in my assembly, these profiles would not have the same reference point but they would have the same type of drawing.
If I understood the question correctly, it is if the same profile has several lengths, will it have a different reference point in the drawing and in the nomenclature ?
I'm in the process of making a machine, now I want to make a casing for it, so I'm using the mechanically welded structure module.
My crankcase is made of the same type of profile, let's say 40 x 40 thickness 2.
So there are several profiles of the same type in my assembly.
Is it possible to automatically generate drawings for each of these profiles?
The drawings would have exactly the same presentation, only the length dimension would change (and only the dimension, not the representation on the plan).
Hello, if you are methodical, you can create a drawing template where when you select an object (here, your mechanically welded profile), it inserts directly with views predefined by the user.
To do this, you create a drawing template by inserting the views you want from any room into it and when you save, it will tell you that you can't keep model views and it will create empty views for you. When you plan with your profile, it will be inserted directly into the predefined views of your model.
I don't know if that's exactly what you need but I didn't understand your exact need :-/
EDIT: Try my technique, I have the impression that this is what you are looking for. It doesn't take long to set up.
The idea comes that, via Autodesk Vault, it is possible to make a "design copy" of a part with the linked plan. Afterwards, as soon as the part is changed, the plan of the shot is also changed. (this is an example for Inventor not knowing how to call the same function in Solidworks)
Here the problem is that I can't make this "design copy" because it's the metal structure module that generates my profile.
Save the drawing as a second code, then choose a different body in the model view, normally, the dimensions should follow.
Edit: if it is possible to split the mechanical-welding in different parts (several 3D). You have to go to the list of welded parts, then choose "Insert into a new part"
Otherwise there is the SmartDrawings utility from MyCadtools. Don't forget to check the option "create one sheet per body for mechanically welded parts" and it automatically generates the drawings of the different bodies from a model.
