Is it possible to modify a part in the context of assembly without extracting it? This "temporary" modification simply allows me to quickly see if this or that modification would be feasible without having to extract the file. Indeed, in the case where the part is validated then I have to make a change of state (because I am not allowed to extract a validated file) which is definitive, then extract and then modify and if in the end my modification is not feasible or if it is just a bad idea then the damage is done because the change of state " modify the part " is done.
I just found the possibility to make a modification of the part by opening it alone but not in context. In context I have this message
Hello flaheurte, I don't have the PDM, but I'll make a copy locally to do my test and my modification. Then actually take the part out of the trunk and redo the modification or simply take out the assembly and part where the modification will be made, then overwrite the modified part to validate it in the PDM ... This is a solution for me, unless I am mistaken. @+. AR.
Hello Another solution is the connection functions available since the 2018 version. This creates a copy of the file in a folder, and then if the modification is made we can remerge the files. Branching and Merging Designs (for SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional only) - 2020 - SOLIDWORKS PDM Help Edit: And basically yes unfortunately you can't modify in the context as long as the files are read-only
Thank you both. I had these two solutions but I find it "heavy" to do.
Well that's a lot of clicks just for a test... I wish I could have edited on the fly and then just closed... It would have been so much more design-oriented.
Hello @A.R , make a local copy to test why not, but you shouldn't overwrite the PDM part if the change is ok. There is a whole history available with the PDM so if you overwrite you lose all the history ... and I imagine that the admin blocked this possibility I like the solution of making the changes by opening the piece in read-only because yes editing in the context is not possible. And for my part, I don't think it's a good solution to modify the workflow to allow this kind of test by creating for example an intermediate state.
