Note with derivative part property

Hello everyone.

I need your enlightenment, without knowing if it is possible.

I just created a part BB from another part XX via the derivative function. Do you know if it is possible on the dwg to have a note using this XX part? Typically, I would like to put a note saying to go and see the quotation of room XX for the common areas. And where the XX is called automatically, of course

Hello;
I don't think it's possible (not to my knowledge anyway).

  • However, check the options available when creating your derivative part...

[aside] That said, I have never fully understood the great passion of some people for the use of derivative parts apart from the creation of " dead " bodies, test components (RDM), or libraries... [aside-off]

Wouldn't it have been easier to make a save a copy-under or a configuration, in another assembly?

Kind regards.

Hi @Maclane and thank you for your help. I'm going to look at options on that side.

Otherwise, to meet your needs: It's SUPER practical when you have common starting pieces/core.
For example, I have a piece A that I want to mold. Then a second room B, larger than room A but which integrates room A within it.
The fact of making part B derived from room A allows me several things but among other things to be sure that the common part undergoes the same evolutions over time since it is the same 3D.

There is also the case of tubes that you cut to length. You derive your new lengths from the tube you bought. Your shape has therefore undergone the evolutions if there is a need without you are open X versions of lengths to modify it.

In short, for me it's practical but because I have an interest in it

Hello

At home, we engrave the number of the cast in 3D. So it is visible on the 3d of the part.
On your derivative part, just show this place (on a nice 3d view for example) and put a note like "Reference molded raw part".

You can also transfer custom properties. It could meet your needs but will require adaptation I think (the transfer of properties is all or nothing). If you import everything, you'll probably make a mess in your new room. Or you would have to have a lightweight base part model containing almost only its base reference. There is a way to uncheck this link property by property but I think it's a hassle (unless you go through a macro)

Hi @froussel. I actually wanted to put a note "Raw part molded reference XXX"... except that once I got there, I thought there was a way to automate XXX

Before leaving last night, I noticed that I didn't check the "custom properties" option. So I'm going to try on that side. Especially since my derivative part has not yet been filled in. So I don't risk too much for the moment

So, I'm bringing you news from the front
So indeed, you had to click on the "custom properties" option to transfer from the initial part to the derived one.
Beforehand, you must of course create a property in the initial part with the variable $PRP:"SW-File Name(File Name)@XXX.SLDPRT" in order to include the file name
All that remains is to link the note with the right property.

It is sad to note that, by default, Solidworks does not allow the inclusion of the file name in the properties. Which makes something rather simple, not at all intuitive

But in the end we manage to do what we want. That's the main thing^^

Thank you both for your help, it guided me well in the journey.
