Custom Folding Notes

Hello

I would like to know if there is a function to note information when drawing a sheet metal part in the unfolded state.

Let me explain, I use stainless steel sheets for my assemblies, these sheets have a PVC side (outside) for aesthetics and a raw face that is always placed inside the assembly.

I would like that when I created a drawing in an unfolded state, it was systematically the outer face that was represented with the note "PVC FACE" on it and if I had to switch the view (inner face) that there was no such note.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm using SOLIDWORKS 2018.

Hello

the only way I can see to do it automatically is to change in the text settings of our folding which can be found in: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\lang\english.

I am attaching the modified file but you will first have to copy  yours in order to have a backup. Once yours is copied you remove "ac cobra"  from the name in order to have the same as yours so that he finds it again on the other hand "FACE PVC" will be written in the folding note see screenshot

Hello, maybe with a color code on the front, <I think the top of the fold will not necessarily match the pvc face!>

Hi, just for information all the parts not systematically the pvc face on the outside or even no pvc face. Be careful, a mistake happens quickly and does not forgive

Hello, thank you for your answers.

Indeed the fallen fold does not necessarily correspond to the PVC side (example an S-shaped sheet) but thank you anyway for providing a solution!

For our part, our flatbed drawings systematically have the visible side = the PVC side.

Laser cutters prefer to cut the plastic first before the stainless steel, hence the request for the PVC side on top (no need to return the dxf) and therefore no annotation for us (systematically the laser = sheet metal with PVC)

Hello

There is a way to tell SW what the reference face is when unfolding, this allows SheetMetalManufacturing to put the unfolded views in the right direction on the MEP and BatchConverter to export the DXFs also in the right direction.

To do this:

1- Put the part in an unfolded state

2- right click on the unfolded function and choose "Edit function" (img1.jpg)

3- The part goes back to "folded" mode with a blue highlighted side (img2.jpg)

4- Select the desired side as a reference (the side with the PVC film or the one with the finish) and validated.

I'm relatively new to stainless steel sheet metal work and I had a lot of setbacks at the beginning... Now I systematically do this manipulation.

If you want a more precise tutorial, don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards.
