"THREADING" tool

Hi all

On a part made in 3D printing, I want to make a thread. To do this, I need to represent, in real life in SOLIDWORKS, the (Gas 1/2") on the part.  

When using the thread tool (see "Filetage_1" n°1), a window appears.

Inside it, we have to choose between several types of threads (see "Filetage_1" n°2), we have the choice between INCH DIE, INCH TAP, METRIC DIE, METRIC TAP. First of all, what does "TAP" and "DIE" mean?

Then, after selecting "Inch" (tap or die), I need to choose the size. And there, problem... Do you know what the sizes on offer correspond to? (See "Filetage_1" n°3)

Tars and die = Tap and Die

be careful to stay in Métric if it's for ISO standards and French formats.

In addition, if it's for 3d printing, be careful at the start and at the end otherwise you won't be able to put any screws in your tapping

Last question: 

So in your opinion, on a part incorporating a 1/2" GAS thread, what value should I integrate?

Because I don't exactly come across a value proposed by solidworks.

Be careful, the "inch" threads of this function are not necessarily the gas threads, they are probably the UNF/UNC, so see MacLane's answer

Unless I haven't downloaded everything but apparently the thread function only exists for threads and not for "not Gas" threads.

Maclane suggested to do the threading yourself by removing material maybe it was for this reason. He will tell us :-)

As a reminder, this function was originally created to make threads on shafts or bores of already substantial size. But we are far from having all the existing threads as a basic model.
