Parameterizing the same part in an assembly

Hi all

I'm trying to get a single part to set up a single part in a solidworks assembly.

Let me explain, I have a basic part, with a specific profile and a specific height
I want to integrate a new part on the same basis as this one without having to recreate another part.

So I searched a little on the net, I came across subjects such as parameterized odds, global variables...
But not having an in-depth knowledge of these methods, it is difficult for me to implement them.

The end result would be a jamb/transom assembly (door frame)

I searched on other forums, and I came across a response from a user
Speaking of a SW assembly of a portal that updates automatically...
I don't really know if this project could meet my expectations,

If you have something to enlighten me, I'm all for it!

Have a good day to you,
Thanks in advance,

Séb.

Hello

A first method (in Solidworks) could be to make a family of parts managed by an Excel table.

Make a basic part and then make "insertion" "table" "family of parts".

Select the dimensions to be set and then fill in the excel table with as many possibilities as desired.

You have to use the SolidWorks configurations (and therefore the part families).

In the very simple example attached, I have created a rectangular cross-section part with a length.

I vary the width, thickness and length via a family of parts.

Thank you for your very quick answers!

I do the test in the morning,

I forgot to mention that I am under SW 2012
I am therefore unable to open your Flegendre file

Ahhhh the compatibility of SW between versions... :D

I just did the test...

I don't have good news (for me)

SolidWorks ejects me as soon as I try to create a part family...

SW2012 and Excel 2010 compatibility problem?!

Hello

A priori SolidWorks 2012 and Excel 2010 are compatible: http://www.lynkoa.com/sites/default/files/questions/answer/14/09/2014/configuration_systeme_requise_pour_solidworks___windows_et_mac___solidworks.pdf

Hello

If you only have a few dimensions to modify, you can create simple configurations without necessarily creating a part family in excel.

To do this:

  1. Right click new configuration at the top of the configuration tree
  2. Once created, select the dimension (or dimensions, or features) to be modified and then right-click configure
  3. fill in the table the values between the different configs

The problem with the configuration is that if I have to modify the rebate of the profile, I am forced (I think) to have to make the modification in the configurations.

However, what I would like is to have a "mother" piece that will drive my other pieces...

For the connoisseurs, top solid can do it, we set up a part by giving it dimensions (for example: Height, Width, Depth) And the software asks us for these dimensions BEFORE creating the part...

If you have to change the basic sketch of the parent part,
Modifications are made to the parts related to it.

I always have the same problem when I want to create a room family...
Maybe the pc that doesn't support... No idea about it

Re

This is a good idea for the configurations, only the variables that must be different from one to the other will be taken into account. Otherwise, everything that is common to each configuration changes for all cases.

I don't understand your problem.

ps: if your question concerns the profiles you should in this case look at the operation of the mechanically welded in SolidWorks, see the tutorials
